'78 CB 550K Seat Lock broke
« on: June 18, 2016, 01:07:33 PM »
Original seat lock won't unlock. Does anyone know how to free a stuck seat lock short of drilling out the lock cylinder? There's a small hole on the underside of lock case that I can get a pick into put not sure if that was Honda's fallback plan for a lock malfunction. Spring tension is gone when turning the lock cylinder. I need to get the old lock off to install a replacement. The seat is down and locked. The lock mount is smartly engineered so you can't get to the lock case mounting screws when the seat is closed. Seems like a shame to have to drill it out after all these years. I'm thinking if I could remove it without hogging it up I could fix it. Thanks.

that's a really good idea for a Houdini trick Stryngboen!!  ;-)

maybe it can be done... if you can get the seat hinge pins out from under?
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

In your profile you don't list where you are located. If you are anywhere near southeastern PA I know a very talented locksmith who could probably solve your situation if you took the bike to him.

I was able to use a 10mm wrench to get in and loosen the nuts holding the seat portion of the lock. Just took some time. Boogered up the nuts, but no biggie. Had the same issue on my 78. No key and the seat in the full lock position.
