No worries Mark, my K1 engine is back together and in situ in the frame, and will be running again tomorrow or Friday, and is booked in for registration inspection of February the 8th. Once it's "on the road" I'll be riding the wheels off it, so you'll be getting regular reports from ol' #3, ha ha! ;D

Sounds good to me...
The installation sounds easy enough.
I'll need to go out and rev her up to redline a time or two before the installation to make sure there is no misfire in the stock condition. I don't run the bike that hard much, but last time she wound right up to the red in the lower gears fine.
Will do her good to have nice an Italian tune-up anyway!<G>

I just opened a package of PC boards, so I'll be a-building within the hour.

I just started the DYNA coil testing, too. It draws about twice as much current as the Honda coils do, and the spark is noticeably bigger. I'd recommend running a gap of .050" with these coils, which will give stronger low and midrange power ,with better MPG to boot. The "droop" at high RPM is much more severe than the Honda coils: at 8000 RPM, the Honda coils droop about 15%, while the DYNA coils droop 50%. At about 7500 RPM, they are equal output, and at 10,000 RPM the Honda coils are stronger, because they have not drooped as much. Interesting. The "kickback" from the DYNA coils is very strong, probably because of the stronger magnetic field, which will certainly be harder on points and condensors than the stock setups.

Although, if a transistor is doing the work, the points will never notice.   ;)

i did a search for green dyna coils point gap and this was the only thread that came up, so...  ;D

should i be doing something different with my point gap than stock spec from the shop manual(550K1)?  :o

I'd sure try it. Those coils really generate a lot of HV current! You might even get that monster 750 to idle that way, too.   ;)

Looking forward to trying the new "BOX"...I've thought several times about getting one of the Dyna units to eliminate the old points system...but I just never seem to have any trouble with them...the bike starts/runs/idles fine as is.  If it ain't broke...don't fix it!
The nice thing about your system is that if something fails...just hook up the condensers and go back to stock...you aren't stranded on the side of the road with a burned up black box. I gather the Dyna unit must be very reliable actually.
I'll be incommunicado next week...a little R&R on the slopes and after 911 it's just too much trouble to try and take a laptop through the airport. Be sort of nice to have a break from the E-mail too!
Just let me know what the cost of the box is and shipping and I'll be glad to send you a check...

That'd be a good "before and after" test, ride it to Marks place noting the responsiveness and fuel economy etc along the way, then compare the difference on the way home!  ;D

Well I did re-gap 'em Mark, and you were quite right, with the standard OEM gap of .030 (.7mm) the spark was pretty weak, so I opened it up to .050 (1.27mm) and I could see the spark was fatter and bluer, and after dropping the main jets down from 110's to 105's I fired it up, and it seems to idle smoother, but there were 2 cars in my driveway blocking my escape, so I parked it for the evening. I've just hooked up the dual front discs with braided lines etc, so once I've bled the air out I'll take it for a ride to guage the difference with the leaner mains and wider plug gap. G'Day Mark, well I'm very sick today, it's Monday here and I'm so sick I had to stay home from work and ride my K1 Kruiser over to my local bike shop and get it inspected for roadworthiness, so I can take it to the Oz version of your DMV so I can get it registered on Thursday, anyway it (just) passed the inspection, Jeff the inspector wasn't too keen on the loud pipe and the home-made chain guard, (the 150 rear tire negates the OEM item) not to mention the braided brake lines, but eventually, he couldn't stand watching a grown man crying like a little girl and eating dirt, so he gave me my "green slip" and told me to bugger-off, Woohoo!

I got home and parked it when I went inside for a cold drink (it's 100 deg F outside today) but when I walked back outside, there was oil under the engine? Shiite! I checked around the head gasket, sump-plug,oil filter, oil-tank plug etc, but no leak, and as I scratched my head in abject confusion, I saw oil on the points cover? Huh? Then I realised that the rubber bung on my crappy 60 psi oil pressure gauge had blown out? Ha ha, no problemo, I had a new 100 psi item in a box, so I've swapped that out, and it's oil tight again! I'm looking forward to fitting your ignition mate, the  weather here will stay warm and dry for the next 3 months or so, then I'll be able to test it on those chilly 60-70 deg F winter days! Good Morning Mark...
Enjoyed talking with you the other evening. I'd say we are both motorheads!<G>
Annette is doing OK...she's headed to the ortho guy today for an MRI on her knee and get the broken arm checked out. Looks like they did a good job setting it there at Breckenridge and it won't require any surgery etc.
Getting her home trough the airport with a bum knee and an arm cast was a bit of a challenge! Security was at Orange...so everyting had to be checked out, but we made it home fine.
I rode a bit yesterday afternoon...was a bit chilly, but not too bad...just puttered around town...compared to a wind chill of -70 on the mountain Friday...it wasn't bad at all!
I'll get you to send the box to my office here...someone will be here to accept it that way.

I came across this in my travels in cyberspace, and wondered how this would compare to the one HondaMan is working on.  I realize it would take 2 of these for our bikes, but it sounds in essence to be the same thing he is working on now.

If these prove successful I'll take 2 when you get into some more production.
