Ducati forks?
« on: October 04, 2016, 02:42:59 PM »
Went on a fantastical wild goose chase last night.
Wondering what the possibility if sticking ducati fork tubes and lowers into a cb triple tree were.  Saw some on ebay and other brands use 35mm tubes too.
Are the 35mm ducati forks any better than the old cb?

I can't imagine a huge increase in performance. The reason most people go with newer forks or GL forks is to get larger diameter for more strength and stability. Sticking with the same diameter forks won't accomplish much.

Not knowing much about the ducati internals, I had hoped there was a magic gizmo in there that honda left out of the 550 design.

Link here with specs.

Depends on which forks of course. I have a set off a S2R800 sitting in the shed. Had 3K on them when I did my upgrade.

The question was specific to 35mm forks TT.

They look pretty good, but
If you search Betor 35mm there is a Set for 100bux and a Husky set for i think 150 or 200.
The cheap set is just north of you at bent bike. Has a BIN on it.

Expect to change springs and make a stem.

Part of the (youthful) hope was to retain the stock trees and controls/cluster of the cb.  And simply slip the new tubes and lowers onto the bike with an appropriate wheel setup etc.

Usually the trees on those forks are lighter and much better looking,,build the guage bracket, and maybe steering stop. That Husky one, nothing to mount a disc brake, the other has mounts on one side so probably doable.

At that point, may as well consider the gsxr/cbr/wang swaps.

One of these days I'll dig in deep on a build.  That day is not today.

Instrument bracket... Handdrill,  a few files , hacksaw, and a few beers .
Stem should be under a hundred, at lest the ones i made.
But if you get early CanAm betor legs with fender mounts, use you heavy trees,
The Marz are easier to mount brakes. To but way more money.
Which brakes were you thinking of using ?

I'd be hopefull to get an aft mounted brake.  Since the forward mounted brake on the cb is notoriously squeaky.

You can easily turn yours around , and go dual disc but they are heavy .which fork do you have now ? How many bolts hold the caliper bracket on ?
You mentioned in another post you had bushings, so It sounds like you have early forks with the C bracket mounting the caliper to the fork.
Almost any fork will work better than the sohc 750 forks.

Aft mounted is as squeaky in my experience. I think it mainly comes down to pad make up and vibration damping. Though I'm using EBC pads, maybe OEM is less prone to the squeal?

Who knows, the caliper arm and fork leg setup probably act as some sort of tone arm and primitive phonograph combined

Is this the beginning of the SOHC4 band?

If we can tune our brakes to the same relative tone scale maybe.  Nutcracker suite anyone?
