Yet another CB750 racer.

Finally got around to finishing up a bike for me.  1970 CB750.  Motor is bored out to an 836 using some vintage Venolia/RC engineering pistons, new rings, and some cyclex mls gaskets.  New dynoman valve springs, guides.  Cylinder had some porting done by RC Engineering in 1974 (documented).  Serti valve job.  The crank had been micropolished and balanced, and had the alternator rotor lightened by RC Engineering - also back in '74.    Swingarm is one of Chris Redfern's (MotoGP werks) as well as the stainless pipes.  Brake is a buffalo 4LS with new linings and pads.  Oil tank came from Old Scrambler.  Tank is aluminum and believed to have come from India.  Had most of the parts on my shelves for years.  Don't worry K0 resto guys - it was just a motor, frame (that was already cut), and a box of leftovers.

Very nice bike!!  A little old and a little new (but period correct).  Just curious as to why you went with the twin-leading shoe front brake instead of rotors.

I've had that brake on the shelf for a while now.   Just couldn't bring myself to sell it.  So... to answer your question, I just think it looks cool.  That's it.
Stops as good as a stock disc with the new pads and linings.   Ultimately, I'll change to a dual disc.  I was looking for some different period-era calipers to use - just got too expensive at this point.  I'll rustle some up eventually.

I like it.  Add a front fender and some rearsets and you got one hell of a bike.

I think it's cool, too.  I bet it has at least as much stopping power as the stock disc.

I just noticed the wheels.  They look like the shouldered Excel wheels or Akronts but you've painted or powdercoated the inside of the rim black.  Nice custom touch.

What is the story with the tail? Is it aluminum, steel or fiberglass? Custom?

Tail piece is off a Kawasaki KZ750B.   I took a section out of the middle and some off the bottom edges as well.  Always liked the little lip they have.

Shouldered aluminum.   Yep, I painted the centers.  They'll get a pin stripe as well.

I just can't do full on rearsets.  I'm too tall and my feet get in the way.
The foot pegs are actually moved back 4" from stock and up about 3/4"   -  More for my riding tastes and big feet.  Just had to shorten the brake lever and the shifter.
Still contemplating a fender.  I have a Tarozzi fork brace on there that I really like.  Still, I'd like a fender incase I get stuck in an unexpected downpour.  As it currently sits, it's more for show and sunny day riding.

Very sharp looking bike....clean. I like the Hondasaki look of it. Especially the seat/tailpiece. You might not want to go too fast till you make sure that the angle of the rear spokes are not going to be an issue.

I agree, Very nice build, at that. Yeah, bout the only 2 things I'd change, would be to add a front fender and change ownership (to Me)

Bike turned out great John, you ended up with a good balance, something lacking in many racer/cafe racer builds. I would incorporate some kind of fenders to keep the muck of the vital bits... ;D  Oh, and its Chris Redpath mate... :P

Freaking cool bike.  Great choice of colors and seat design.  Bet you're happy with the handlebars.  A short black fender with matching pin stripes would look sweet.  Did you put rear turn signals in the frame or just black inserts where it was cut?

thanks, turkey.  Yep, I will be putting turn signals in the frame rails - I have plugs in there now, all my wiring is in place.   I'll fab up a fender for the front, just had a hard deadline and this was as far as i could get with the time I had.  I haven't even got to ride it yet, but I've done another with the same set-up and really like it.  I'm more of a mountain bike BMX guy so I like my feet under me. Hope to add some sort of front windscreen as well.   Stay tuned
