My new toy -- Eva
« on: November 20, 2016, 06:02:24 AM »
Just bought a 2005 BMW R1200GS with 14157 miles on it yesterday.  I had been watching these bikes for the better part of a year and when I found this low-mileage bike with all service records, complete with extras and almost $2,000 below what they have been running for bikes with around 30K miles, I couldn't resist.  So I drove almost 4 hours up to Asheville, NC yesterday and bought it.

Has all 3 Vario panniers, keyed to the bike's key.  Also came with an extra brand-new battery, an extra Corbin seat and an extra windshield (taller for winter...it's about to go on the bike).

Yeah, Boy! Heated grips, Ron? If not, invest in a pair. Makes all the difference for cooler riding. Let me know when you get it titled and under your own documentation and lets go for a ride!!!

Yes, it has heated grips.  The only extra that it doesn't currently have but which I intend to add is the Throttlemeister.  I just ordered a set from Amazon this morning so I'm expecting to add them in the next few days.

Seriously, about the ride...I actually do plan to go on about a 10 day ride around the southeast in the spring when the weather begins to warm.  Most likely around April'ish.  I'll reach out to you at that point because I'll likely swing through Virginia as part of my trip.

You are going to be riding in style, nice bike. Don't forget though you still have to give us lowly old Honda riders a little finger wave when you encounter us on the roadways  ;)

LOL, well since I still have 3 Hondas as well, I doubt I'm going to be ignoring anyone.  Although I really need to finish up that 500 and start work on the 550 so that it isn't just a bunch of parts laying around.  And, come to think of it, I also have an extra 550 engine now and other 550 parts so, if Bill Benton can find that 550 frame he has, I'm going to buy it so that I can build even one more 550 as well.

Congrats, always nice getting a new toy.

The fairing appears to be very aerodynamic, especially the part under the headlight

Don't wait, Ron. Get on the Blue Ridge and come on up! I'll meet you in Gastonia and we can go from there. This is the final weekend for me for a while of kids soccer (once more in mid-Dec) and I'm ready for a Man-venture on 2 wheels.

;)  Yep.  Just like Eva Bronn, she's German and beautiful....but dangerous as hell if you don't watch her.

cal, I can't do it this upcoming weekend because of Thanksgiving but I'm game for December as long as it isn't absolutely frigid outside.  Plus, Kelli is traveling the first couple of weeks in December anyway so I'll have plenty of time.

I'd be heading "southish" to intersect with Ron. Perhaps somewhere midway between GA and NC. You'd be welcome to drop down and tag along if we get it together.

I'm game with the exception of next weekend.  Kelli leaves in about an hour for Kazakhstan but gets home Saturday (Dec 3) and then is gone again on Monday Dec 5th to Abu Dhabi and Kazakhstan again.  Since she won't be home again until the 23rd, I'm leaving next weekend open to spend time with her.  Other than that, I'm game.

I bought some winter gloves, a balaclava and extra set of thermals.  Going to test them out this afternoon when I go for a ride up into the mountains with a buddy who rides an Indian and a bunch of his Harley-riding friends.

For cold weather an electric vest is nice to have. I just got back from riding the Blue Ridge and then back to CT, it was cold. The vest along with thermals and riding pants will keep you nice and warm. I have a Harley one that has a nice turtle neck collar that gets toasty.
