Race 1, Phillip Island

Pretty good pair of WSBK races for the season opener, lots of close racing. Too bad if you're a Honda fan expecting good things from the new bike. Plenty of work to do for that team.

I don't know what is up with Honda and its non-MotoGP factory prototype efforts.  Their "factory" MotoGP racer with non-pneumatic valves was an anemic disaster.  They have lagged on updating the Fireblade/CBR1000RR  for WAY too long, and it's update is underpowered (but at least lighter weight) with crappy base electronics.  Guys like Hayden in WSBK and John McGuinness (IOM racer) have been eagerly awaiting a "better" bike.  Guy Martin got lured into racing this year's IOM TT based in part on the new bike, too.  It's turning out to have a lot of birthing pains.

Other factory WSBK teams (Suzuki, Kawasaki) are fielding new bikes for 2017 but with better success (Kawasaki).

Rumor for very recent patent filings is that Honda may produce the V4 superbike people have been waiting for for the last 10 or so years: http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/rumors/honda-rvf1000-v4-superbike-2019/
