I thought I was the only one still living!!
« on: June 06, 2017, 02:57:56 AM »
Well hello South Africa! I've been on the forum for quite a while, but only now discovered the SA Branch.

I'm up here in Harare and have been (slowly) trying to rebuild a 750K2, carried all the way from Belfast (N Ireland that is). It's been a slow process because, if you think parts are hard to come by in SA, try Zim. Most of the bits I have sourced on eBay (US, Europe and other places) have been caried here to avoid the astronomical postage and of course the taxes and duty. I didn't know there was a source for spares/parts in SA!!

And just to confirm how daft I am, today, after years of looking for a bike to cannabalise, I took possession of a second bike - a very rough 750 K1. Cannabalisation is now pointless as I have already bought all the parts I need, so a second restoration/renovation will start shortly.

It'd be great to meet up with some of you guys next time I'm in SA (Probably 22-29 June in Durban and JNB area).

And if someone can post more details of the spares sources, I'd be very grateful.

Sean

HI Sean

I live in Durban but I work in Germany. Let me know via a PM (private message) when you're due there next. I'll probably be there again in November 2018. If you need anything I do have an xxx-load of CB750 spares. I also have a K1.

cheers

Hi Andy,

Sorry I haven't responded; I had no response fro so long, I forgot about it.

As chance would have it, I'll be in Durban next week. Supposed to be on my way already, but sprained my ankle on Sat and having idling problems with the bike.

If you're there, maybe we could meet up.

Hi Spotty,

I made it! Thanks for asking.

As of 24 March, I’ve been in Belfast. Now I’m looking for somewhere to hibernate for the next few months. I was lodging with my niece waiting on my flight back to Zim, but that’s just been cancelled  :(

I don’t think it’d be fair to impose on them indefinitely so I on the hunt for somewhere, preferably with a garage/shed so I can do some work on the bike to help pass the time.

The bottleshops will still be open though. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, well I've always considered Guinness to be poor quality toilet cleaner Spotty, but I've never been a fan of most beers, if I was back in Ireland, I'd be wolfing down good Irish Whisky. ;D

Fewer and fewer places are selling “proper” draught Guinness these days Spotty. I came across this thing when staying with friends in Wales. The off-licences – as we call them here – are indeed still open.

Terry, the stuff you’re referring to comes from that other place, across the sea; it’s not Irish. Our holy water is spelt with an “e” – whiskey  ;D

Ha ha, thanks mate, semantics aside, I enjoy a good whisky/whiskey from either place, even Japanese Suntory is a delightful drop. ;D
