Topic: just bought a 1971 cb500

Now the restoration begins.....
Low milage, siezed engine, missing sidecovers and exhaust. But came w/ 2 front wheels, 3 rear wheels, 2 into ones (totally rusted), and a 1972 CB350 with an extra gastank, wheels and a few other parts thrown in.

That makes 5 bikes on my restoration list:
1972 Kawasaki S2 350,
1978 Suzuki GS550 (not the gs550e)
1976 Kawasaki KH500
1971 Honda cb500
1972 Honda CB350

now where did all my $ go?

Congrats! How did you find it. Post some pics when you can. I brought home a 71 CB500 a while back to. The motor was stuck also. Its sitting in my storage building and maybe one day I'll get it back on the road.

Ok, I will move it to Projects.
Found the bike locally via my son being on the "internets" ie, facebook posting (which I don't access much).
It's been stored in a shed for 20+ years and the gentleman that owned it died recently so his son decided to clean out the sheds. Or should I say, have someone pay HIM to clean out the sheds. He said I could take anything motorcycle related as he doesn't want the memories.

Picking it up on tuesday. I'll start taking pictures then.

Uhmmm....ok an update. There was also a 1972 CB350K twin, helmet, 3 rear rims/tires, 2 complete front ends/tires (1 for cb350, 1 for cb500), complete cb500 carbs, airbox, valve covers, etc.
It will be easier to just post before/after pictures.

Have started cleaning the CB500 and found....the bottom end of the engine points cover area has a missing 4cmx2cm section where the screw, screws into. Cleaned it up and used a product from Fastenal to repair. Unfortunately the stuff was rather hard in the can and did not seem to be very flexible/pliable nor stick well.
 I brought it back to Fastenal in Charlestown, NH having paid $26/8 oz....and was told it is "out of date".

Yeah, written on top of the can it was only guaranteed until 041717! and they would not give me credit nor replace it as I bought it last year in August, but had just opened it. I thought the #'s were their store  product code. My fault.
Live and learn. Guess I'll try some JB Weld as people on here seem to recommend it.

Call the company and explain your experience and see if they will replace it.  If they don't you should ask who their competitor is in that product segment?  You want to buy a product that works the next time you spend your money.  Why boost their sales with two purchases?

also have (not in picture) a 2' x 2foot container of spare cb500 parts that I'm trying to sort and decide if I need them for this restoration.
