Topic: So what did you get for Christmas?

Well I got a 75 cb400. Our youngest son bought it earlier this past summer with plans on making it a cafe bike but after doing the math on how much it would cost to do it the way he wanted it he decided he'd rather spend his money on his cbr600 track bike, get a truck so he could haul it to the tracks he rides on (rather than use my truck all the time) and make his Subaru WRX as his "toy" rather than the 400 and handed my wife the keys to it for yesterday. Very cool bike but the question now is what am I going to do with it? I've got some remodeling projects for our house planned for this coming year so having another project bike wasn't what I had in mind. Our son later said that he hoped we didn't feel he was unloading the bike on us, I told him it was all cool but with other household projects having a higher priority the 400 wont be getting any serious attention for a while.

Among  many other things like the knobby rear tire. It had sat for at least 10 years before my kid got it but we got it to fire up once we did a thorough cleaning of the carbs. It sounds pretty good but because of the chain and dry rotted tires we haven't had it on the road at all. Lots of TLC needed before we make any attempt to ride even for just a test spin. The previous owner had it for 20+ years and used it  only to ride up and down the country gravel roads where he grew up which is where the knobby tire came in. the odometer says it's low mileage (8k miles) and I tend to believe it because although the engine is dusty it's not oily or greasy, excellent compression on all 4 cyls and no rattle or clanky noises at all when running which I would've expected if it were a high mileage bike. All in all it's solid but it does need some serious TLC to make it nice. I'm using the word restoration lightly because I don't plan on making it 100% original, more like 95% original and 5% personal touches but definitely no cafe plans.

I would clean the chrome parts, especially the exhaust as any dirt on them will retain moisture causing them to rust more. Even sitting in a garage they will rust from the dirt or rust retaining water, making any pitting even deeper.

Nice looking project bike. I agree that the blue is a great color for them.  But, with plenty of nice chrome around they look good in sulfur yellow too.

I have a 50" Pioneer but I want her to see better in the kitchen,  so a 65'r should do the trick! Only $800 shipped...

UHD is really nice but that OLED is IT! I helped my sister TV shop. She was going to spend $600 until she saw that LG OLED for $1499. More expensive yes but one helluva deal. And to think I like my Samsung plasma  What I didn't tell her was that she'd need to also upgrade her receiver to a new 4K model too  If I had done that she would have backed out

Yeah, wifey wanted to spend $400 on a 42" UHD model and I talked her out of that.
I don't think she regrets the purchase even though we will use the full amount of time on the zero financing they have.
30 months zero interest.

 I got a 10 gallon wheeled race fuel can with a hand pump on it. Pumps in and out. It should save a bunch of spilled fuel at the track while tipping 5 gallon cans. It might also come in handy winterizing bikes. Fill her up with some airplane gas with synthetic 2 stroke mix and suck it back out?

My garage is full of bikes, I've got so many cars I just don't need any more, I've got 2 big arsed TV's (and a smaller one in my bedroom) so I didn't buy myself anything this year, but scored 5 nice bottles of booze so can't complain.

That's the plan. I cringed when my kid had it and he was telling me all the cafe plans he had for it like mono shock rear, gixxer forks and so on but now that it's in my hands I'm just going to clean it up, make it safe to ride and then leave it alone.

BTW Steve-o, I'm not much of a Vette guy but that is a nice one you got.

Way to go mate, I had a CB350F that I restored back in the 90's, it was a fun little bike, and sounded like I was doing the ton when I was riding at legal speeds! I only bought it because the seller was an Indian restorer and he begged me to buy it because he was sick of dragging it around swap meets and taking it home again, it was extremely rough and cost me a fortune to get it nice, but a mate who owns a tool shop liked it so much when I finished it, he swapped me a $5K lathe for it, which has been a great thing. Enjoy your Christmas present!
