Fender mount/ crossmember
« on: January 09, 2018, 07:31:21 AM »
Good morning all. I am looking for the rear cross member/ rear fender mount that guys cut off when putting a rear hoop on their bikes. For whatever reason, mine is missing. I fixed the seat hinges fairly easily but I am still in need of the fender mount. Picture attached is the part I am looking for. Thanks.

I think I have what you need.  I will need to check its condition as the frame it would come off has certain areas severely rusted.  I think that particular area is salvageable.  I would need $60 to hack the chunk off extra large so that you can trim to fit your bike, packaging, and shipping.
If it works good, it looks good...

Let me get back to you on that. I may have a lead on one that's local to me. I appreciate it.

That's fine.  Unlikely that it is going anywhere anytime soon.

See if you can find a wrecked frame at a local salvage yard.

I found one... Only if the guy will email me back. Otherwise, I might have to take up seanbarney41 on his offer. Trying to do the local one first.

Don - you have bike salvage yards there? None around here that I know of.

I found a guy on CL that has a hulk of a bike for sale. No title but a front end and an engine in a frame. Maybe I can get what I need and make a few bucks on the deal.

Is it that hunk in Edgewater for $500?    If yes, not worth it!

Yeah that's the one. It's bad, huh. I can get it for way cheaper. I was toying with the idea of selling the stuff off of it and recouping my money. There's also a guy in Orlando that's got some junk frames that is supposed to get back to me tommorow...

If the motor is not stuck, I'd say it's worth $200-300.  No title, right?

I didn't take a close look but there might be some good parts...

Surprisingly, yes, and even in Los Angeles.  Many absolute wrecks, but the part he wants doesn't discriminate.

Los Angeles Motorcycle Salvage
Southern California Motorcycle Dismantlers

These are two that I know of.  They skew more toward modern bikes.  If you need good quality used parts, you can also ask Bill Benton.

If you are not going for a strict restoration, why not just weld in your own cross-member and tap two mounts in the stock position for the fender?

That's what I am starting to think. I am in no way trying to restore this bike, and I'm not entirely sure that I even need that brace. I've been riding for about 6 months without it and I don't know if it's really going to make a difference at all.

The crossmember stabilizes against frame twist (as well as providing a mount point for the inner fender and fender.  If you don't have it, you should replace it with another cross-member or a rear hoop.

Yea would be much better than having some kind of stupid flex issue take your traction in a hard corner when you're on the brake! ;)
