Got a bounce at about 35-45mph, worst at 40. Don’t think it’s suspension related, tires are balanced, wheels seem true, gonna check on the front sprocket, it might be loose.

Anything else I should look out for?

Steering stem nut was a little loose, thought that might be a contributing factor. Snugged it up, no change

Tire pressure? If they're not inflated properly, you'll get that dreaded "bounce". I'd also say it can very much be related to balance and rim concentricity.

Tire pressure was low (22-23 psi), I realized I hadn’t checked it since I had the tires mounted (whoops). Brought them back up to 28 psi. I’m on the clock until 4:00, but l’ll have my 5-mile ride home to test this hypothesis. A 20-25% pressure loss could cause issues eh?

Absolutely can. I think you might be better near 32 psi. But if the bounce improves, just add some air until it vanishes.

Regarding the roads in your area, they do take a toll on tires when you push hard. Removes the chicken strips almost immediately  ;)

Yep. My K1300S with a 195 rear. I can't wring any more out of me to make that bike do any better. We averaged 64.3MPH over the mountain (Route 311) from Newcastle to Paint Bank. Scramps may know the road. Coming back we averaged 56.6 because its more steep downhill. Its a fabulous road for riding a bike, at any speed. We were fortunate that there was no one on the road surface ahead of us in either direction to avoid or pass.

We did just a tad over 1200 miles from Friday through yesterday, starting in Richmond. LONG weekend, great roads, no interstate at all. Only a bit of time on divided secondary state roads, else all back roads and country routes. Thank God for suspension and brakes (mostly suspension)  ;)

I do know that road, and the idea of averaging 64mph along it scares the crap out of me

So I’m still bouncing. I’m guessing that my wheels aren’t as true as I thought they were.

Besides being obnoxious, I’m guessing that this bouncing is probably not particularly safe, and it can’t be good for the tires.

Correct. Revisit the truing and then re-balance them.

Who mounted the tires...are the beads evenly seated all the way around?

There’s a small Suzuki dealer about a mile from my house, I had the guys there put them on after I popped a couple tubes. They appear to be seated properly

Also you need to check the swing arm bushings. Worn bushings can create unusual behavior.

I didn’t replace my swing arm bushings, that will be the next thing I check.

Still waiting on my bronze swing arm bushings to get here. I propped the front wheel up off the ground this evening and discovered that it is indeed not true. I attempted to straighten it out a little, and while the rim itself seems to be tracking better, the tire still has a little bit of hop. I suppose that's what I get for buying the cheapest tires I could find  :P

I may hazard a commute to work tomorrow and see if there's any improvement

Deflate the tire so it can move on the bead and be sure it is seated evenly on the bead. Did you align the dot on the tire with the rim seam? The tire has a dot that should be aligned opposite of the rim's valve.

When you reinflate do so slowly to ensure the tire is seating evenly as it can cause the tire to hop on the rim if it does not seat properly.

If the rim has a hop in it, you might be able to adjust it out truing it but if you cannot then you will need to replace it.
Tire should not have that behavior if mounted correctly.

Checked out the other front rim that I had, it’s very true. So I’ve mounted everything up onto it and I will be giving it a test run to work tomorrow. Preliminary examinations look promising

That was the trick, it rides like a dream now!

That more or less concludes the function phase of this project, aside from the quest for stoichiometry.

Would be better with smoke emanating from the rear tire, you slung off the seat, perched into a death grip on a long, slow, left hander!  ;D
