new bolts are widely available...so if the head of the bolt goes bye bye, the filter cover comes off and the rest of the bolt spins out easy...reassemble with new bolt
those multi teeth or multi pin sockets are #$%* man, they wouldn't pull a loose tooth out, good idea but just don't work, they roll over and not grip on that short amount of left over hex!just chisel punch it around a little, then vice grip it the rest of the way.
Bingo even a dremel and a couple of cut off disk will take that bolt head off in less than 10 min. But I would try 754s idea first just for the speed. Then throw that crap away and get a new bolt. What next try to save the filter and what is a clamp/wrench?
heres anyones opinion?
Maybe but if you don't destroy it with a chisel, and weld on a socket, you will never have trouble again..Nada...zip.. never.. That is why I dont think the big head is always a good idea, makes the uninformed think it needs more torque than it does.
Mine was kinda buggered up after a couple of decades of abuse. Maybe not quite that bad, but I found if I hammered on a slightly smaller 12 point socket, it would give me enough bite to get it off. I then replaced it with a new bolt at the next oil change.
