Changing the steering shaft to gear box "rag joint" on the 70 Chevelle SS.

Hey Johnie...was your steering loose?  Idler arm good??
Hey Stev-0 the idler arm was good too. I think the PO thought the center steering arm link was bad as he had a new one in the box but never put it on. That part was fine too. Yes, the steering was pretty loose.

A friends lovely wife passed away, here is a pic of her with what's now my 69 firebird. It appears that he carried that photo a long time.
This is the one I'm working on now.

That’s a nice looking car Don, and she looks pretty hot too, in a most respectful way, of course.

Anyhoo, after spending a small fortune on my new to me Ford AU petrol utility, (ute) it’s now street legal, and on the road. I’m calling it “Farm Truck” as I bought it from a farmer in a small rural community where the truck has been since it was new, 24 years ago.

It’s a great vehicle, and unlike my other AU (LPG) utility, it starts right up on icy cold mornings like we’re experiencing at the moment. I’m yet to take it for a long drive, but at least I won’t have to worry about not being able to find LPG in the middle of nowhere. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well, after the rebuilt steering box was installed on the '69 Mach 1, I was still experiencing "hot engine-slow cranking" syndrome, even with a new high torque starter.
With a little help from a buddy that in my mind is a wiring genius, we installed new large gauge custom length cables directly to the starter and solenoid. Turns out the the solenoid was bad so that was replaced too but dont think that contributed to the issue.

I dont really like the looks of the "clamp style" battery terminals, I've had an issue with them in the past so I sourced a set of terminals that the cables can be inserted and soldered.  Ordered them from Summit Racing.

Only had time for about a 20 min test drive, but the 'stang is running great, and when parked in the barn and turned off, it started right back up instantly. I love that!

However, seems like it always something with Classic Cars, the coolant temp gauge is not working. A quick test of the wiring and gauge resulted in them being good, so most likely is it the sending unit, a $20 part. It is a simple replacement as it mounts in the intake manifold in the front.
All in all, a good day with the Mach!

How've you been doing ?

G'Day Bill, I'm going well, busy working on my VMax with Spotty, currently in the process of installing Hyabusa 6 piston front brake calipers to replace the OEM 2 piston calipers. On top of that I'm in the process of moving all of my "Spare" bikes across to an auction place, so I can hand back the storage unit, now that I'm verging on retirement. Took the KZ750 over yesterday, and today I'll take one or two BMW's over (I have 3, and need to keep one to stay in the club, so I can get cheap club registration) the VTR1000F, and maybe my Rocket III. I've more or less decided on which bikes I want to keep, so it'll be good to sell off the ones I don't need, and get some room back. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

Terry …..good plan to “thin the herd”. I was a bit apprehensive when I sold four of my Hondas last year but truthfully I’ll ride the four or five I still have more frequently, my shop has more room and my cheque book is a little healthier! Go for it! John D.

Thanks John, yeah I think it’s time to seriously thin the herd and spend more time and money on the ones I want to keep. Now that I have the VMax I can let the Triumph Rocket III go, We (my brother and I) have owned it since new and it’s a great bike, but I can put the VMax on cheap club registration and save around $700 per year over standard registration, plus it’s a big heavy bike and takes up a lot of space, which I’d rather keep for my other bikes. I need to put my ‘69 Kawasaki Mach III together as I want at least one 2 stroke bike, and will sell the Suzuki T350 and T500. (And a lot more….) ;D

Yeah I’ve thought about that too Simon, I could sell my house in the burbs and buy a new house on a couple of acres in the country, but I know that if I had a bigger shop I’d just keep filling it with bikes and cars. I rode my K100RS SE over to the auction place yesterday and looked at the log book, and I haven’t ridden it at all this year, like most of my bikes, so it’s better going to someone who will use it more often.

I’m hoping that the 10 year old Motobatt battery that I pulled out of the Triumph Rocket III and put on my battery charger will have enough life left to fire it up today so I can ride it to the car wash and give it a much needed clean before I take it over to the auction place. If it needs a new battery I’ll buy one and install it, because no one in their right mind would buy a R3 without hearing it running first, and it’ll make it easier to sell. I was even going to take my faithful old Sporty across before I remembered that my youngest boy wants to eventually swap his Royal Enfield for it, so that’s a good thing, the Sporty is a lovely old thing. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I was realizing my brother is a hoarder but five of the ten 750's in my garage were his and I "helped him out" by buying them. Who's the hoarder now? He would like me to own his GL1000 and sidecar CB500 and the two twin cam 750's in his storage unit.  No, no a thousand times no.

Tim and I spent the day working on the Lexus race car. Got too much done to even list but most importantly found an annoying (fairly minor) oil leak I’m been chasing for a few months. A -10 X 180 degree fitting to the oil cooler was tight, but drooling out the swivel portion. Will need to open up the front end to get it out. Pictures next time!

Put new wiper blades on the rodeo today after a morning frost kindly ripped one of the old ( admittedly already well and truly worn out ) ones in half.
Took half an hour, many tools and much swearing , already not looking forward to doing it again in 4 or 5 years.
Also noticed how worn out all 4 tyres are. Time to investigate the cheapest possible option
