Finished up the remote fuel reservoir. The primary pump from the 24 gallon cell keeps the little tank full. The return line from the engine fuel rail also comes back to the little tank. When full, it over flows to the main tank. The pump in the little tank keeps the fuel rail full. Need to tidy up some lines and loose wiring, but it all works.

In theory, when we get down to the last few gallons in the big cell, the race car should never stumble (the way it does now for the last 5-6 laps of a two hour stint). Off to a test day on Monday to see how well it performs on low fuel levels.
John, have you heard of Hydramats?
https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/hydramat/

Yes….. Amazing tech and we did considered trying one. Like most stuff, getting one in Canada costs a more than the USA and they are not cheap! When we realized our cell is actually only 22 gallons (our rules allow a “24 gallon system”), the extra capacity added by the remote tank/ hoses became attractive (and much more economical). Testing it at Shannonville road course this afternoon.

Bought a project - a 1966 Mustang Fastback!

Well, the compression test did not go well, 3 cyl were below 80spi, so out she came!

And with "Internet Magic" it was rebuilt just like that!!

Not really, after some research, I found it more budget friendly to purchase this correct rebuilt 289 from a grieving widow! [don't worry, I didnt take advantage of her too bad!]  Her husband had it rebuilt and was going to use it in a '46 Ford street rod but I convinced her to sell it [also got a spare trans and other various parts]

But there is much work to do before it can be slapped in...

The engine bay looks worse that it actually is, not much rust. These old "Rustangs were really prone to rust but this car has been in Texas a long time and apparently California before that.

Great test session with the LEXUS. The remote fuel reservoir system worked perfectly and the car ran consistently well, even at extremely low fuel levels in the main cell. Scrubbed in two sets of new tires and brake pads. No issues…. The work list for the next race is short!

Very hot (and relaxed) evening. Mostly guys lapping in fast road cars, so we both got to use our “cool suits”! No race suits made it very pleasant.

Steve, keep the patina! Clean it up, replace/update the important parts under the skin, and enjoy it! I knew a guy that bought a mach 1, thinking it was in good shape, then spent like $30K for a paint job that took 2 years...
Do you know about the Shelby modification that relocated the upper A-arm pivot attachment points?

Hey Dave...the 302 is a good motor, if I am not mistaken, it is just a stroked 289.

Hey Bill...yes, the widow gave me a sheet of what was done when rebuilt. Nothing crazy which is fine, I just want a reliable runner for this car.  I have the '69 Mach 1 with the hot rod motor [bored stroked 351W]

Het Scott...this car is past the "patina" stage!  Not much rust except in the doors, which is common. Most classic car guys have a story about being in "paint jail"! We have a new painter that charges a fair amount and knocks 'em out quick. Not show paint, but very nice driver quality.
I have heard about the "Shely mod", but need to research it further as I want the car to handle nicely.  I do want to convert to power steering as well...

Final prep…. Next race weekend is at Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park). Practice and two X three hour enduros on Saturday. Good chance to use up some partially worn brake pads! Eight hour race on Sunday. We are leading our Class and third overall in the championship, so everyone is getting more serious…..

P.S. We race for “bragging rights”, tee shirts, hats and posters so kind of funny.

I'm finalizing the fitment of my 2.5" stainless exhaust on my firebird, I knew I bought 4 band clamps for slipover joints and only can find 3. After a week of watching for it while I worked and active searching, I remembered yesterday that I used it making the muffler for the 76 750F supersport that I sold last year.
DUH. Two new ones are already out for delivery today. Tack-up could be finished tomorrow and them I can remove it, pull the engine and trans and begin the real rebuilding.

Nope, it had an HO350, I didn't realize that it was a rare option until it spun a rod bearing and I scrapped it. It now has a 72 Catalina 400 motor with the HO's ram air 3 heads 280 H comp cam and the original 400 transmission except with a Gear Vendors overdrive. The rear axle is a 9" ford with Strange axles, 3:89 Richmond gears and a blueprinted traction lock in a Nodular case with a Daytona pinion bearing.
There's a good chance the 400 will get an +.030 bore with a 455 stroke making it 462 CID.

My Dad's old 1959 TR3a. Time to replace the weeping rear shocks. Each side has 2 bolts to the frame that don't allow access to a spanner / wrench, nor socket. This may take some time! At least they should be well-lubed with damper oil!

The first few cars I “restored” were very early Austin Healey “bug-eye” Sprites. I still have the original 1958 shop manual. Because of the car’s unibody construction almost every section began with:
1 Remove Bonnet.
2. Remove Radiator.
3. Remove engine/transmission as a single unit…….!

My older Volvo C30 had me scratching my head a bit this week. On Monday the dash “message centre” popped up with “low brake fluid”.  Checked it out, and it was a bit dirty, but well above the min. mark. Looked OK because the one thing i did when I got it was four new discs and pads all around…..

The master is buried in behind the battery box and under the wiper cowling, so I just ignored it for a few days. No stains on the garage floor and the brakes work fine. I did manage to pry off the two prong connector that attaches to the top of the resevoir. Leaving the circuit open made no difference, so I tried jumping it closed with a paper clip. Still the same message. Very strange.

Then I noticed some strange “fluff” in behind the battery box. Dug out the battery and managed to pull out the ridiculously complex battery box and discovered a large “Mouse House”! The little buggers had chewed off some of the cloth wrap on the wire harness and stripped some insulation from a few wires. I guess it finally broke last week. The joys of country living. Tiny “angel hair” wire, in a tight spot, that I will attempt to repair today. What a pain!
