I know I am bringing this back up from the dead...but do Gold 630 chains exist? I don't know much about chains...I am guessing there are great differences in prices. I currently have a DID 630 but it has many miles on it. (I have a 1978 CB750K) I have found gold 630s on ebay but they do not say a brand and seem to be priced too cheap to be good...please point me in the right direction

Thank you

As others have pointed out earlier in this chain, just convert back to the 530 chain from prior years. You will have no problem finding a gold chain and the sprockets aren't expensive.

I found on on Amazon when I start putting my bike back together. http://a.co/iIItZ3R I haven't had any problem with the chain, no idea how many miles though, maybe 4000ish? It is quite heavy though, but you know that.

My new 530 sprockets arrived yesterday, and a 530 chain (in gold!) arrives today. I can’t wait. My 630 chain bounces so much that I thought my rear suspension was falling apart. Is the rear tire mounted wrong? A shock fall off? Rear axle disintegrating? No. Just a super-massive chain that alternates between too tight and too loose, takes 10 miles to warm up and then flops around like a dying fish.

By the way, on the 1977 and 1978 CB750K, the sprocket combination that most closely matches our stock (15/41, or 2.733) is 17/46 (2.706), not the 17/48 (2.824) that the 69-76 guys use. Our internal gearing is different.

Also, the 1977-78 swing arm is longer, so the chain has to be longer. I think the 69-76 chains are something like 102 links. I got a 110, and expect to delete a few when I install it. Does anyone know what the official link count is supposed to be on a retrofitted 530 chain on a 1977-78 CB750K? I figure it’ll be about 106-07.

This is all great news...the sprockets are just a straight swap...there's no offset issues?

A straight swap.  I went 17/47 JT sprockets, and went the 110 link (RK brand) route and cut it to my liking.

Will my 18" rear tire factor much into the rear sprocket tooth count?

No. The 630 is major overkill on our bikes

Bikes with more than twice as much HP as the CB don't use them. 530 is strong enough for a Hayabusa. What possible advantage could there be for lugging around an oversized heavy 630 chain? None that I can see. Bob.

Heck, the 530 is overkill, but the cost to switch to a 520 isn't justified by the nominal decrease is weight for a street bike

yes, they last a really really long time.  The original chain on my 750f3 lasted 28,000 miles, 37 years, several of which were full of neglect and abuse.

I was recently shown how much my chain has stretched unevenly....it's tight in places and very loose in others...it smacked the master link clip right off...I am starting fresh

X-ring is a newer design keeping the lubricant better than the older O-ring.
I think DID or DC chains have that in their descriptions.

My chain has golden links, I noticed that when  I cleaned it. Lubrication and use make it dark grey.

Ok. So Here's the stuff I ordered...Never had a 530 front sprocket before. My old 630 is flat on one side...this is correct, there's no difference (in terms of what side faces out)? I'd guess logo faces out.

So that front sprocket was too wide. I bought one for a 76 thinking it would work, sadly no. Off to find a 530 front sprocket for a 78k.
