First chopper
« on: June 02, 2018, 05:37:50 PM »
CL ad I called on said it was sold already,  he reached back out said it fell through. Turns out he was getting scammed by someone out of state sending him a fake check confirmed by the bank. Trying to get him to ship the bike before the check clears.

Offered him 1,150 and drove couple hours to grab.

the good: comes with title, girder, 12k on motor, chromed covers no flaking, has mostly all electrical components but needs to be wired up, no harness, motor is free and sounds great when you kick it, rims will clean up nicely.

the bad: girder needs to be re-chromed, haven't heard the bike run yet, need to source front wheel hub brake assembly. Anything else that gets by me and caught by a pro.

It looks pretty good, but it's probably another maker not AMEN.
Will add a pic, note the motormounts and the neck construction.

I agree, it's not an AMEN Savior frame, the example that Frank showed is an AMEN frame, as it has the plunger shock type rear axle mounting, among other things. Nice chopper though, as it is a hard tail, I hope you have smooth roads where you live, in Toledo, it is a Killer Ride...

Now here is a link to an AMEN catalog, they do show some rigid frames that they made, so if you see your frame listed here, it may have been an AMEN rigid frame.

Edith I think I meant the Amen frame both types look the same , just the back end axle plates are different.

Re: First chopper UPDATE
« Reply #10 on: December 12, 2018, 10:48:08 PM »
Hey guys,

So far: newly wired up electrical box, new battery, carb rebuild kit is on the way, carbs on the bike are from a bike we just tore down, new rear brake assembly hardware, missing some motor mount hardware still, needed fresh oil, wire up head light, install new LED signals and brake lights ordered from revival. I was going to just buy the original brake hardware for the existing wheel but I don't like the small wheel and the lack of braking power. This bike is for my buddy and this is his first bike so I want it safe for him. Ive decide to mate a cb350 front wheel with brake shoes on there, that way I get better braking power but still keep it 70's like the owner wants to do. The chrome on the girder is basically shot and he is in no rush to re-chrome it so I've been thinking about spraying some wrinkle black over it but we will decide after he rides it a little bit next season. I installed a new exhaust as well.

The main goal was to hear this bike run and get it back to neutral - after a full season we will think about doing all new paint and maybe a harley front end.

still to do: rebuild and re-jet carbs, re-thread the hands bar mount holes, new brake shoes front and rear, wire up signals and brake lights, wire up headlight, install 350 front wheel, fab seat mount with springs for solo seat that came with bike. Fab a custom sissy bar for this as well, get seat re upholstered, new leather diamond stitch, thinking about forward controls as well, I have a bracket there so i can use a bolt on option rather than welding it. Here are some updates pictures and videos of it running.

This was hearing it for the first time

- running it outside, the carbs aren't jet correctly so you can hear it bog down when i get on the throttle.

With velocity stacks and short-cut pipes, you’re going to have bogging, no matter what. The pipes have insufficient backpressure at that length, the stacks will make it lean, very lean.

It will be an animal to tune into a “well running bike”, but who cares ultimately? It’s a chopper  ;) Welcome to the jungle...

Who puts a front brake on a chopper? ;D

I did, I put dual Honda disks on the front of my chopped 750 back in 1980. Had a CCW girder front end special made to accept the dual disks, and had a 750F rear disk. Was the only chopper in the shows I entered that had real brakes.

The velocity stacks are what came with the bike, I'm not sold on them and have been looking for pods filters that fit easily. There is only about 2 inches of space between for a pod to fit so I've been looking into smaller options.

im the same way, i prefer disc brakes front and back so Ill prolly source parts this riding season and make the changes next winter.

BTW, nice girder on that bike, looks like the one I had. Never did like those e-boxes that sat under the carbs. I hid all my electronics back behind the motor then made a nice cover for them there. I also built a panel in the gas tank for switches / lights etc. If I recall I used a Ness rocket tank. The frame was a softy that utilized the stock 750F swingarm.

there is only 2 1/4 inches between the carb and the oil tank, it has to be some tapered pods or a custom air box. Other option is I replace the oil tank with a pill shaped or can shaped oil tank and open that area up a bit, that also means a new battery box and relocation.

I have an oval bread box for a 750 but its massive.
