Old timer? Pfffft! I was around before the goldrush! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Should the Shameless thread have term limits?

YES!  Although, in keeping with the spirit of the thread, the limits will be minimums.

Madam Chairman  ;D  I propose as follows:

This thread must receive two or more shameless postings, per slacker involved with this undertaking, every twenty-four hours, at least four days per week, or the offending under-poster shall be forced to read this thread from the beginning.  As further punishment, they shall lose all priveleges of viewing the Babe thread for a period of twelve minutes.

All in favor, promptly ignore this post.

Those opposed, same sign.

 :P

Ok I have now posted again. I can be as shameless as any of ya.

hack

    [very common]

    1. n. Originally, a quick job that produces what is needed, but not well.

    2. n. An incredibly good, and perhaps very time-consuming, piece of work that produces exactly what is needed.  "Nice hack!"

    3. vt. To bear emotionally or physically. “I can't hack this heat!”

    4. vt. To work on something (typically a program). In an immediate sense: “What are you doing?” “I'm hacking TECO.” In a general (time-extended) sense: “What do you do around here?” “I hack TECO.” More generally, “I hack foo” is roughly equivalent to “foo is my major interest (or project)”. “I hack solid-state physics.” See Hacking X for Y.

    5. vt. To pull a prank on. See sense 2 and hacker (sense 5).

    6. vi. To interact with a computer in a playful and exploratory rather than goal-directed way. “Whatcha up to?” “Oh, just hacking.”

    7. n. Short for hacker.

    8. See nethack.

kluge: /klooj/

    [from the German ‘klug’, clever; poss. related to Polish & Russian ‘klucz’ (a key, a hint, a main point)]

    1. n. A Rube Goldberg (or Heath Robinson) device, whether in hardware or software.

    2. n. A clever programming trick intended to solve a particular nasty case in an expedient, if not clear, manner. Often used to repair bugs. Often involves ad-hockery and verges on being a crock.

    3. n. Something that works for the wrong reason.

    4. vt. To insert a kluge into a program. “I've kluged this routine to get around that weird bug, but there's probably a better way.”

    5. n. A feature that is implemented in a rude manner.

256 (two hundred [and] fifty-six, CCLVI) is the natural number following 255 and preceding 257.

In mathematics, 256 is a composite number, with the factorization 256 = 28, which makes it a power of two.

It is also equal to:

    * 16², the square of 16
    * 44
    * 4↑↑2 using Knuth's up-arrow notation

Two hundred fifty-six is also:

    * The number of characters in the new Braille 8-dot system.
    * The number of different values in one byte, which makes it the typical number of different values in each color channel of a digital color image (see color space encoding).
    * The number of columns in a standard Microsoft Excel worksheet.
    * The year AD 256 and 256 BC.
    * The Split-Screen Level in Pacman
    * The number of counties in Texas.
    * The number of characters in Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita.
    * An area code in Alabama.
    * The number of regular season football games in the NFL.
    * The frequency of Middle C in hertz under philosophical pitch.
    * The number of the Amarna letter (EA256), which, according to David Rohl, was written by Ishbosheth and contains mentions of King David, Jesse, and Joab.

Dweeb /noun

     37.  To use a dictionary to boost posts in a shameful manner.  Not really shameful as it doesn't take a rocket scientist to cut and paste drivel.  (see also: moron or maroon)

There's a theme there, if you look.  I think the terms are ones easily transferred from that realm to this one.  Also, we're on page 256 so I thought a hacker-ish theme was appropriate.

Sorry of my drivel annoyed you :)
