The Fightin' Terp K0 * RUNNNNNNNNNEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR. 12/28

This summer I've had a chance to pick up more bikes then usual and also more then just the usual CB750 or CB550 that I'm accustomed too. While searching I found this 70', one owner whose son decided it was time to let go of his father's bike. I had to reach out to a few members here in regard to what would be a proper amount to spend on this survivor. To those members thank you very much! Anyways, after some communicating, the son and I were able to agree on a price and this past Saturday she was delivered from Maryland. Mark, the person I bought the bike from carefully packed the tank, side covers, airbox, baffles up to avoid any damage during transportation.

As for the bike, it has 13,772 miles. The paint is original; tank inside is in excellent shape as it was stored away with racing fuel. Mark and his dad were and are big car guys and I'll share some pics of his muscle cars. The engine cases have been replaced by the Honda dealership where it was purchased from due to chain slap. The cool part about the dealership is that it is still open. I don't plan to do much to this bike besides get it prepped to be a daily rider. 3 out of 4 pipes have no rot at all and very minimal surface rust. I have the tool kit which still has a the Honda feeler gauge. At least I think it's the Honda feeler gauge. On the tool kit there is a pocket on the outside for the gauge. Overall in this bike is in excellent survivor shape. The ape hangers will be removed as I have a spare set in my shed. As for what I've done to the bike, the list includes removing the fairing, the luggage rack and sissy bar on Saturday. The seat is mint. The gauges are in excellent shape. The seat strap has been ordered. I placed an order for airbox boots, new side grommets, tapered neck bearings, wheel bearings, fork boots since I ripped on removing the fairing.  Fork seals, hand grips, clutch cable has also been ordered. I misplaced 2 washers for the shocks and even ordered them.

Here is a pic of Mark's father on the K0. This bike has been in storage and off the road since 1985. The one pic is the storage minus the blankets that were on the bike.  The picture of boxes is the tank, side covers, airbox and baffles. The cars are his.

Carefully with buffing compound. Use a firm foam pad and Mothers or Meguiars Ultimate Compound. Should help knock back some oxidation and reveal the color without damaging the paint.

Beautiful Tews...I thought those bars looked a bit high. Glad you are replacing them. You will have a great time on it.

this color is really bad for fading,and has silver underneath the red,so dont rub too hard,if you get the shine back might be good to clearcoat it ?nice bike!

The frame although the pics do not highlight properly; the frame shines. Minus a few spots where I could touch up the paint from normal rub Mark's.

Use a clay bar kit before any compounds. Both Meguires and mothers make good "kits"  available at most auto parts or wally world. Start with the least aggressive product/method, you can always step up if it isn't working.

Meguires ultimate compound has diminishing abrasives, which means it gets finer as you rub. It can also be used by hand or with a dual action buffer,  No rotoray buffer and NO lambs wool pads. It is also a good product. Stay away from anything that is labeled "RUBBING COMPOUND" as it will be too aggressive. Don't forget a quality wax/sealant after you get her all shined up.

This is good advice.  Do NOT use an orbital buffer and start with the clay bar.  Go easy with the compounds.  Stock paints did not have multiple coats of red so you have limited material to work with.

I bought a compound that a friend suggested. One coat and some elbow grease and it's cleaning up nice. I may use the compound one more time then a protectant coating? If anyone suggest a protectant please share your insight.

What product did you use? Please tell me you DIDN'T use that steel wool in the first pic! If you have a finer cut compound you may be able to get a tad more clarity before you wax it up.

There are some very good synthetic "waxes" out there now that last a long time. But if you want to spend some money Blackfire Fire over Ice is pretty awesome, but its around $60-$70 bucks 'Merican. A good carbnuba is nice too because you can build it up with 2 or 3 coats. Off the shelf Mothers or Meguires is pretty good. After you are all done and waxed up don't use Dawn dishwash soap to wash your bike because it will remove most waxes.
