How do you remove points shaft from end of crank please
« on: June 04, 2019, 07:02:39 PM »
G'day

I'm pulling apart a CB750 "parts engine" and I need the points shaft for a new crank I will be using in the new engine.

I don't want to damage the points shaft removing it.

Also what's the method of putting it into the new crank.

Thanks for your time
Scott

Put two of the correct threaded nuts on the end of the points shaft.  Run them down some. Turn the inside one out while holding  the outside one with a wrench.

Thanks

Quite obvious now that you point it out.

I looked at the new crank and couldn’t see a thread in there and thought it was an interference fit, I guess I didn’t look too hard or think too hard.

It’s out now and not even damaged

I’m still a little way off putting the 1000 cc engine together and making a list of bits and pieces that I will need.

Looks like I might need a different output shaft than the one from the spare parts engine also, so the list will probably keep growing b

Yamiya sells new, with o-ring. Not bent as old used ones might be.

Beware.

The repro shaft and oring leaked on my engine. Slinging oil everwhere out off,the shaft home. II replaced it with a,straight old one and leak went away.
