Honda CB 550 Four Supersport - Stay Classy
« on: December 02, 2019, 12:06:39 pm »
Hey Guys,

i'm from Austria (the little country next to germany ;) ) and want to show the progression on my Honda so far. Bought the Bike in April 2019 in almost completly Stock Condition and changed some things since then. Before i start, i should mention that i do this as a Hobby and that I'm quite new with working on motorcycles and stuff like that. I also won't show you every picture i have made up until now, cause there are simply way to much ;)  But, quit talking and start showing  ;D

So, this is how the bike looked like when i first bought it:

As you can see, the condition was actually quite nice and just needed some love & polishing for the beginning. Also the exhaust had to leave, cause yeah...that welding looked horrible.

Some hours later and my very first polishing experiences later the look got better. As a replacement for the exhaust, i got myself a replica from Busso Silencers from Italy. I just wanted to keep the original 4:1 Pipe System because i love the look. For me just simply beautiful work.

Then, i decided to change the turn lights, which were always to big in my opinion. At that time, i really did not like the look of the original "Schnapsgläser" (german name for that style) and mounted something i used on my Thruxton. The ridiculous huge piece of tail light also had to leave.

It was somehow at that time, when i realized that this is not the right way. I missed the unique parts typical for the 70s and that special vibe i felt, whenever i looked at it. Suddenly i knew what i had to do and what this bike really needs. From this moment on, i decided to mix the best parts of the Honda Cb 500 Four and CB 550 Four and tried to stay as original as possible.

I took me quite some time to realize this simply and yet in my eyes beautiful build and thought you may like it. I know it may not seem much and there is always room for improvemend. But in the end i'm quite proud of the path i took and what i created. In the future i may try out a M - Handlebar, but to be honest...i quite like the actual riding position which is really comfortable.

In case you be interested in the changes, i will try to list some:
- Honda CB 500 Tail light
- Old school turn signals, bit smaller
- Honda CB 500 Handlebar holder (Controll lights Panel) sanded & polished
- Upper triple tree from a 500 Four sanded and polished
- relocated the icgnition to the ride side
- different Grips (Beston Style)
- changed the leather of the Seat
- got myself and original, old and scratchy exhaust
- different headlight
- etc...

There were so many other things i did by the sime but don't seem worth mentioning. Nevertheless, i hope you like the actual condition as much as i am :)

Greets, Harald

  Harald,
You made it your own within the CB family of stock parts for the most part and I respect that. I really like the color choice. nice job.

Thanks guys. The color is called Candy Presto Red which was used on the 550 F2 models. Everything is painted, even the decals and the lettering. The Paint is therefore without a doubt the highlight in this build.

Cheers,

Nice bike!
I did that sort of thing to my 73 K3 750. I used some K0 stuff which I think looks better.
Tail light
Headlight fork ears
I kept the later side covers but the whole bike is the one year color candy blue-green.
No number exhaust from Yamiya, sounds wonderful.

Thanks again guys. I really appreciated your kind words regarding this little build :) Of course there are still things that need to be done. Little oil leak needs to be checked, carbs need to be cleaned and polished and synchrosized etc. Well, the winter is long and i should find some time to do and plan future checkings.  ;)

Cheers

Hi Harald!

very nice 550!, welcome to SOHC  ;)

I plan similar changes on my CB550K as you made - change my big US style flashers by one you had as original on your bike and also tail light with its bracket (change from big US one to smaller european one).
If you are interested to sell your removed parts we can make some deal - sending you PM.

It's been a while, but here are the latest pics from my little Beauty. Got myself an original exhaust in a good condition, exchanged it with the replica from "Busso Silencers"  and found some pretty rare covers from Kijima. So, i guess I am finished. Now the only thing to do is riding with a big smile in the face :)
Cheers guys and stay healthy!!

Nice build indeed!
Change the bike here and there but still keep the stock feeling.

I'm sure many will see this as a 100% stock bike just left the Honda factory as a contribution to the 60-70's era.

Again, looks amazing, and the colour of my CB750F2.  Love that colour!  Looks amazing in different lights.  Especially like night time gas station type light.  Some parts look black while others are a deep metallic red.

Thanks guys! I'm really happy about the good response. Tells me that i did everthing right so far :) Although I'm nominated for Bike of the Month, i don't believe that i have any real chances. There are just too many beautiful builds here in this forum  :D Nevertheless it is still an honor.

For the rest, here is a picture from todays ride. Probably my favourite view of this bike because of this gorgeous 4:1 pipe system...

After some thinking i decided to change my old rubber brake line for a steel one. I didn't expect a great change, the pressure point (is that the correct term?) is better and overall, they almost last a lifetime. After a short ride i don't regret my decision. :)

Nice view, but i guess i will try different mirrors in the near future. Thinking of some classic bar end mirrors maybe.

Cheers and stay healty in this crazy times. Hope everyone is alright.
