Howdy everyone? As promised elsewhere here is my project. It had been sitting in storage but according to the previous owner shouldn’t take much to get it running. Carbs were in bits and pieces, but everything appeared to be there. It has some cool parts on there and as it seems the heavy lifting has been done, so hopefully I can get this going quickly. Here is how it looked when I got it.

Tank: It’s a steel tank with integrated aluminum oil tank from Benji’s Caferacers. There is a small opening at the front of the tank to allow some air cooling of the oil tank. Very cool! The tank had some old gas in there and needs to be cleaned out. I also just purchased a new fuel pet-cock, rather then trying to clean up the old one. I love the two filler caps. The way the oil lines are run is not ideal. The overflow runs around the engine (disconnected in the pic), down by the exhaust and the other two lines are way oversized I think.

Engine: Supposedly the engine needs nothing besides carbs, lets see. I started scraping and stripping paint off a bit and like what’s underneath, Looks like the PO had sanded down the entire engine before painting so it’s not as it looked originally anymore. The exhaust header was wrapped, seems pretty rusty and dented, but has a nice stainless steel muffler on it.

Frame: The frame is powder coated, literally a fresh job. PO installed a subframe and the seat (also from Benji’s I think) fits pretty well, just needs to be fixed at the back somehow.

Electrics: The PO installed the Motogadget unit and rewired everything. Looks like a job very professionally done to me. It comes with the three button switches and even is wired for turn signals. Everything seems to work, except maybe the neutral light. I also need to add a tail light and brake light (already ordered some LED strips for cheap). Another cool feature is the M-Lock, you just swipe the key under the seat by the sensor and the ignition turns on.

Rear end is a swing arm from a Honda Hawk with a Ducati wheel. Front is from a GSX/R.

What needs to be done (in no specific order): Assemble carbs, bleed brakes, rear wheel is slightly rubbing against the swingarm, may need a chain slider, cables are too long so I will make my own shorter ones, engine looks really bad with paint flaking off from previous paint job, modify the seat attachments, paint everything, add rear lights and probably lots of other little things.

If someone knows what I need to do to have the pics appear in the post (and not as a link), please let me know.

I just realized that the first two files were jpg and the others HEIC. WTH, don't ask me why, all taken with the same phone on the same day.

If someone knows what I need to do to have the pics appear in the post (and not as a link), please let me know.

I figured it out last night (new to the forum myself).
1. Create a free account at imgur.com and upload photos to an album.
2. Right click on the image and click "Copy image address".
3. In your post, click the "Insert Image" option (looks like Mona Lisa). Then paste the image address in between the brackets!

Ok, I finally was able to convert some photos. Seems that if they are in jpeg they can be made visible in the post.

The first picture shows the tank with the opening in the front for the "ram air cooling" of the oil tank. The oil tank (last pic) will be screwed into the tank and the tank combination then mounts like a standard tank.

The electrics look well done and clean, everything appears to be working (except the neutral light). Love the wheels!

I'll post better pics tomorrow, just got the carbs on and had the bike running, but only on starting fluid. The second carb is leaking, so off the rack comes tomorrow. Hopefully I get it running this weekend!

Might want to replace that battery NEG cable and move it to a more suitable location. Grounding in that thin stamped area of the frame likely won’t get you the best results.

The Benjie tanks look pretty cool but there have been some problems reported.  BigSam has one on his 750 that had some leak issues.

Good point on the NEG cable, will keep it in mind.

The PO has ridden the bike with the tank, doesn't look like there were leaks, but I guess I will find out. First of all the tank will need a good cleaning, lots of gunk from old gas in there.

I'm using a Benjie's tank on one of my 750's and have not had any problems or issues.

Haven't seen that version, with the oil tank underneath, looks nice 😀

Quick update everyone. Got it running, rides ok, needs some carb syncing to get it right (damn pods  :) )

On my first test ride I couldn't resist and do a little burnout...my wife thinks I am 30 years too old for this but I respectfully disagree, here you go!

I must say I like the looks of it, but the handling isn't really that great. Steering is definitely on the heavy side because there is much more weight on the front wheel. And the seating position isn't that comfortable either. I will enjoy it for a while and continue working on it, then I'll see what I do with it.

I just measured it, looks to very close to 59". Don't know what the original measurements are.

Stock is 57.3" or 1460 mm.  Have you looked into the changes in geometry as to the GSXR forks and swingarm to make adjustments for handling?

No, I haven't, just focused on getting it running first, but I am getting there eventually. There are a few things I need to address before I can go on a longer test ride.
I know that I can push the fork tubes through to get the bike lower in the front, not sure if that would make a difference, but what else is there I could do to adjust geometry? I am not very familiar with custom bikes so need to look into that.
