A bit of bad new today! I noticed a heavy smell of gas in the garage and after inspecting the tank noticed a bunch of pinholes on the upper right side.
I hate to see this tank tossed just because it’s in a great looking shape on the outside but I know if you get pinholes usually it’s rusting from inside out.
Looking at options right now maybe try some seal all and a touch up paint for now until I find a better tank and have it painted or maybe a reproduction tank? Not sure at this point
I know there is a Japanese company that sells a set of side covers and tank all ready to go but the price it’s 1350.00 plus shipping.

Still bummed out about the all tank situation but I figure can’t have that stop me so I decided to go ahead and clean the side covers. I think they turned out pretty good.
I also have found someone selling a tank that it’s exactly like mine, missing the chrome trim and the badges but supposedly NOS never been installed and never had gas in it. It looks great but the price it’s a bit steep but would save me money compared to buying a tank cover set. I guess we ll see what happens picture attached.

I'd say go for that tank, your side covers look good and you have done such a nice job on the rest of the bike it deserves the crowning touch. There's always some heartbreak restoring an old bike, but in the end you have put your best into it and it's cheaper than therapy! They aren't losing value either.

My friend has an original sunrise orange flake tank and side covers with a bit of patina, but not too bad. He's going to lend them to me to get mine road ready, which is cool. His project has taken years and he has too many other priorities.

Also, what is the manufacturing date on the steering neck vin plate? The color looks to be a 76 Anteres Red and not a 75 Apricot Red(bigger flakes than the 76 has).
You've made some good progress on the bike and yes the mufflers look good. Much better than the Swiss Cheese that were on it.

Antonio..... why not just line the tank for now, and decide later? I’m sure if you tape those pin holes from the outside, and line the tank, it will seal (for now).

Yea the pin holes are at the top of the tank. The manufacturer date its 10/74 but you are right the color looks more like the Anteres Red then the flake apricot red. Unfortunately I got nothing to compare it to it. I did find a painter in NC that replicates vintage paint schemes so I got a new tank and side covers and have him do the work. The only down side he won’t get to it til sometime in February, I told him the date in the bike and he said it should be the flake apricot

I honestly thought about doing that but decided not to, just because been more a restoration project and not a daily driver and a nice vintage I want to get things done right as much as I can.
I haven’t made a post about this yet but I did find a painter in NC that has experience in replicating vintage bikes paint scheme so I’m already working with him on doing a set of covers and tank for me.
The only down side it’s going to take a few months.
But it’s getting cold here in Delaware and I should be done by spring

I don’t think I can because I don’t weld but I think someone that those could use a different angle piece where the muffler meets the head pipe.

I found some pinholes in my original 1973 Sunrise Flake orange in about the same location as yours. Tank was otherwise good. Heart breaking.😷

Yeah it sucks especially because otherwise the tank and covers were in great condition just like in your situation.
But with this vintage bikes stuff happens I guess.

Antonio..... I have a perfect tank on my K7. The bottom, back corner, left side had pinholes in the bottom seam, under the chrome trim. I guess water had collected there for years. Other than that, the tank was really clean inside. I brewed up some Caswell Tank Sealer and used a funnel and hose to pour 1/4 pint down in that corner. Stood it on end, moving it side to side every few minutes for 1/2 hour. Basically sealed over just the back corner. Can’t be seen, and still holding, 10 years later. I sealed the outside with tape, before starting.... you should try and save that tank!

I honestly realize I could possibly do that a bit late, the painter it’s already working on the tank a new covers. But I may still try it and save this tank maybe someone else could use it. It’s in a very nice shape

You might find another CB750 one day!

I had parts over after restoring my K6 so I bought a K2 frame with registration. Thanks to all inspirations on this forum I went the stock path in need of more parts.
Last summer I bought another K2 frame with registration, it might get the parts the other K2 was ment for.
