Damn Internet Costs Me AGAIN!
« on: December 14, 2020, 07:13:37 AM »
Sent an email to a fellow that mentioned he had some NOS Honda parts...... Turns out he used to be a Honda Dealer, retired several years ago. Went through his stash and picked out all the “300” and “341” parts. All in original bags and boxes. The list includes:
2 small taillights.
Early Cam chain tensioner (roller)
Oil control restrictors
Early, black top Right side bar switch.
Later Left switch
Shift fork
Starter motor control unit
Rocker “b”
K1 and K3 Speedo.
And other stuff I can’t remember. All checks out as “NLA”. It’s not free, he knows what it’s worth. What the hell, it’s only money.......

DSS sell the later oil restrictor for not much.
https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CB750K6-FOUR-1976/part_322069/

But I fully understand the urge to buy those parts. Hopefully a package deal since seller does not need to sell each part ony by one with shipping and eventual people claiming not getting the part, contacting eBay and PayPal.

I have a similar dilemma here when my local shop's mechanical guy will retire within 6 months. There is no other close that can restore CB750 heads and rebore cylinders as he can that has done this since middle of the 70's. Street bikes, racing and dragbikes.
Guys that can bore 45 minutes away by car instead of 5 minutes and charge +40% more.

I have let him rebore some cylinders lately. 836, 849cc with new or almost new pistons for future use.

- 890 cylinder to be done early next year for another engine build. Install sleeves and bore.

- Restore my ported 5mm stemmed head. (New guides on most ex, machine deeply  sunken head nut marks etc. For the 890 build using 12.5:1 JE pistons that will like DP315 cam and chamber size of 24.4cc.
This engine will most likely enter my 3rd CB750, also a K2 1975 frame and registration.

- He is currently porting an old scrappy 392 head I have, time to restore with 33.5/28.5mm valves.
I told him to make more power than the head he recently restored, ported and decked that gave 101whp on dyno 2 months ago. ;)
- Upon that another bore,  K1 cylinder I have bought Cruzinimage 61.5mm K7 pistons for.
(Like my K2 1975 got earlier this year, but K6 cyl and restored K6 head)

- A rather fresh K1 head in need of new guides. (New valves in my garage). Can be used on a K1 bottom end I have.

Lots of investments to be done this winter while still possible for the old parts I have gathered in my garage during the years.

Sometimes it is a must to invest in things not really needed now, but for future years while still possible.

PeWe.... you’re right. I don’t need anything right now, but can’t resist!
754..... I have not seen the parts yet, will post a few photos Thursday or Friday.

P.S. What worries me is if I have a perfect, new speedo for my K1, I’ll have to look for a matching tach! Aaaargh.

Frank.... I’m curious to see the “black top” switch myself. The only “non Honda” parts on my K0 are the bar end switches (Yamiya). It will be interesting to see how they compare!

I got mine with a motor /frame that was built last week of the K0 .. so I wonder.
BTW that number is either  within 10 numbers or  320  numbers off a bike Tlbrandth has and a motor I have. .

Thanks for the excellent photo. It reminded me I also need to refinish my “dome top” reservoir cap! It will be interesting to compare the original switch to the Yamiya replica. Seller is coming by Thursday, I will post pictures of the parts I get. I used a K4 wiring harness for my Rickman, so the NOS starter moto control may find a home there. I have it jumped out for now........

Those sorts of pickups are great, my mate John has a collection of Honda CB1100R's and got onto a Honda dealer in Sydney that was closing down and bought their whole CB1100R inventory for $20K. I saw some of it, tubs and tubs of NOS parts, rare carbon fibre fairing panels, new exhaust systems, gauges, switches, seats, etc. Well over $20K retail, but the dealer was happy to get some much needed cash. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Might be some around if it didn't escape the grasp of Vic World. At one time it was one of the things that he did was to try and contact all the old Honda shops across the country and try and buy all the old NOS stuff they had sitting around in the back rooms. He wasn't the only 'searcher'.

It’s pretty surprising what you can still find. We have a dealer in Peterborough, ONT., Cameron Cycle. Two brothers own the place, one is the mechanic and Peter runs the sales and parts. I always contact him first, for what I need. They only sell “Honda Power Products” now (generators, snowblowers etc.) since Honda went with their stupid Super Store concept, but can still order motorcycle parts.

They’ve been in business over 50 years and it’s amazing what they also have in stock! Unfortunately, their antiquated parts inventory system can’t be electronically sorted by part number (ie: search for numbers containing -300-) but whenever Peter finds an older cb750 part, he puts it aside for me. Last visit I got a some early carb parts, a seat latch, fuse box, drive sprocket lock tabs, and a few turnsignal stems! Whatever he finds, I take...... best find was a pair of red K1 sidecovers, still in the Honda bags.

Nice. Like Vic World, David Silver raids all of the Honda dealerships worldwide, as well as buying lots of stuff from Yamiya etc. Murray Feldman, the guy who makes twin carb setups for CB750's and Mikuni carb conversions for CX500's etc bought an old bike shop that was closing down due to the owner passing, and had a massive inventory of 1960/70/80 era used bikes and stock. Lots of CB750's, Z1's etc, and everything else in between.

I suggested that he send a shipping container full of bikes to Oz and I'd sell them for him, but he was a bit leery of sending them to me even though we'd been dealing with each other for over a year, so it never happened, which was a bit of a shame, he would have made much more money selling them here than he would have in the US. ;D
