Tapping those cast lower triples is no big deal.  Its not as hard as it looks.

This is the setup I need to make stops for, it's a 92 250Nighthawk I made bearing cups for to fit a 91-03 750Nighthawk front end on. It's a bit of distance to cover, but should be alright if I use thick enough bolts.

Yeah I looked it up in my notes and it'll be about an inch. Should be fine with the right grade bolt. I could get creative and mill up a horseshoe shape to bolt in beneath that frame stop and use the cast nubs on the triple, but I'm not feeling that energetic and everything is still packed away in storage.

I removed the front end and drilled, tapped, and sunk allen screws in for fork stops. If you cant tell, I mostly eye ball stuff and used the drill press to make my holes and the stem was getting in the way of lining things up. The left is closer to the neck of the frame than the right one, nothing hits and it all still works....I just hate when stuff is crooked but I still never do anything to ensure that it is not.
I've been going back and forth about color scheme, money, time, spreading out parts for other projects.

The tank that I've painted blue and yellow and whatever colors is going to a 75' SS roller that I have so that leaves me with the F-4 (is that correct?) survivor tank pictured. Since that is not getting stripped, the rest of the bike paint scheme with match the tank. I also half assed vinyl wrapped the left side of the frame to see how it looked, it just makes me want to hand polish it and get it nickel plated ....more time and money. The idea this was going to be a quick project has died. Got the fairing stuck up there to get an idea of Im gonna use it...Ill have to get new clips to get things lined up where i need it all.

Polished rims with orange spokes would be cool with that, maybe just every 2nd spoke orange, don't wanna overdo it and detract from that tank stripe.

I dig the eyeballing stuff, sometimes it's gotta be right, but sometimes it's ok to take a run at a problem with scissors in both hands and your hair on fire. You can always file one side if you need more clearance later.

That fender is hurting my eyes, time for something else maybe?

I've always liked those wheels. Years ago I had the idea to go with alloys on my K3 but the budget was low and I wound up with 750 NH forks and rear drum wheel, front wheel was CBR600F 1987 running just the left brake. I've got them on a 250NH now, should be finishing that one up soon before I lose shop space.
Your thread reminded me that I've got to make fork stops too, I'm so glad I commented that earlier.

Alan, what does "NH" stand for?

you have pictures of that build?

I dragged some of it out of storage today actually, I'll be painting the frame tomorrow since it looks like the last good day until spring, the plan is to cobble it together here in the parking area behind my apartment. I'll post some pics here when it's a roller again. If I'm lucky it might even get plated this year.

I didnt really have any plans to do away with the front fender unfortunately. I figured the correct paint scheme on there would make it easier on the eyes. The super builds i was referencing used F3 front ends and seem to have a more streamlined front fender. Race tech internals are also available for the F3 which is why they used them over the F2 front end. I was going to do the wheels in all orange but maybe a two tone who be appropriate. Their red and blue color scheme works well and I really like the red mags. Honda CBR repsol color scheme pops into mind, its a much lighter orange than whats on the tank though, the earlier F tank had a much deeper orange than the later one.

But yeah, no intentions on getting rid of this front fender unless i source an entire F3 front end for cheap. Abandoning the fork ears I have right now might make more sense so I don't have to change the clip ons, it would be a cheaper solution. Im moving things around to get the headlight the right height but fit the clip ons in the small gap provided on the fairing, its annoying. Still need to  get a belly pan from air tech. I should have the rear wheel alignment figured out tomorrow hopefully but most likely Monday or something.

Steering stops are in, they're about 1.5" high and should do fine, too dark and damp to put it back together tonight. I used 5/16-24 grade 8 bolts, 2" long. The triple drilled so easily, and tapped easily too. One side is perfect but the other slants out about .060"

I got my steering put together this afternoon, the stops work perfectly and I can still sleeve them if I ever need more room.

Thanks. Yeah it's got a 56.5" wheelbase though so not a minibike, more like a UJM or a sportbike in size.

I think I'm going to do a white and orange color scheme on the wheels and Ill probably color match the orange on the tank. Im leaving Friday and heading to Georgia to deliver my buddy his bike, Im gonna load it in the pick up and head out.

Just my $0.02, but the full Repsol decal set is a little much.  Of course, my suggestion is the more costly one: powdercoat the wheels black and add a orange pinstripe.

Strictly floating ideas and that’s not making the cut.

edit: found this in another thread, my wheel in orange..the orange on the tank is not something I want on the wheels, this orange though is nice...but its not the same shade so #$%* #$%* it. I think the wheels will stay white.

Im just going to combine this thread with a 75 F roller that I have, ive been grabbing random parts for it t make it a more complete roller. 1976 K motor for it but needs a complete rebuild, hopefully just gaskets all around. Idk where im going to assemble this bike, might bring into the house and build it in my living room.

picked up a torozzi fork brace from guy in texas for 70 bucks shipped
got a 1975 rear seat in good condition, small tear in the cover, small enough to not have to recover it, 70 plus shipping.
18" spoked front wheel for it sometime last year as well as a rotor for the rear hub which was missing when i bought the roller.
I have a tank for it and I have a few sets of clip ons so I figured I would just go that route. I know I have brake line and throttle cables that short so it would be cheaper.

That's a nice seat for the money.  Watch it though!  The F seat covers really like to rip right there for some reason.  Once they start, it's gonna want to keep going.

found this for 100 bucks down the street from me....im at about 200 bucks in parts just for the seat and rear of this bike. Im starting to realize im not good at building a cheap bike overall. :-\

I still think this is a good amount of parts in good condition for the price.
