Who's got the best deal online for an 8mm Time-Sert brand kit ?
« on: January 01, 2021, 07:20:17 PM »
I've found that the Time-Sert brand inserts are 'top of the line' and I'm looking around for the best deal on a kit(which contains all the necessary tools and inserts) of 8-1.25 set which includes the 18mm(or 20mm if 18 is available) inserts.

Amazon was all I found. I shopped on ebay for helicoils, I got them for a lot less than my local parts store. I'll shop local unless it seems like they are taking advantage on the identical item.
I wonder if Grainger has a decent price?

No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Can I buy stuff from Grainger w/o being a corporation ? That's the thing though, there may be a large place like them who has a Tine-Sert 8mm-1.25x18to20mm  kit for less online,I've been looking.

Yes, you can buy from Grainger as an individual. If you have a Grainger store you can even pick it up

If you try to buy kits directly from time-sert on their website, they send you to Amazon.

I bought my M6 kits, std and next step Big Sert plus additional inserts from USA
https://www.threaddoctor.com/metric-kits/

M8 kit: Std M8 (8x1.25mm)
https://www.threaddoctor.com/metric-kits/metric-thread-repair-kits/time-sert-1812-core-fl-m8x1-25-thread-repair-kit

More inserts needed.

There are also self threading inserts than can be seen as step 3 when big sert is destroyed or where there is plenty of meat to use the bigger holes. M6 insert in 9mm hole. These inserts need only correct sized hole, no special expensive tools.

I ordered M6 from China, really cheap compared to the original from Wurth which I have used before.
I ordered 2 packages of this after asked seller that sent a link for 2. Wurth look exactly the same but cost MUCH more. M6 for 9mm holes. Perfect for CB750 cam holder bolts, the longer bolts with plenty if alu around.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/M6x12mm-304-Stainless-Steel-Self-Tapping-Slotted-Thread-Insert-20pcs-/303336779113?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

I'm sure similar for M8 to be found too.
But not an option when no big holes can be made. It must be material that can keep the insert in place.
Like exhaust threads in CB750 head. Only std Time Sert possible. (Or the cheaper helicoil type). I have used both in a head I have.
