The mission begins now.
Started today off with the final step in the trailer project.
Then moved on to the final steps of the race bike.
A couple of cable stops and more dressup livery.
Made sure the steering dampener would fit with the airbox.
Bought some wheel discs off amazon.  Gawdy looking things but pretty stout abs.
Not sure i actually want to mount them.
One more heat cycle and monitored afr and exhaust for signs the turbo is drawing oil into the mix.
Time to start sorting tools and supplies for the big event!

Got the trailer looking smart.  Wrapped the alloy structure in abs plastic for a little extra protection.

Weather sealed the tongue box and put an extra lock set on it.
The ramp holster on the rear has four stainless pins with cotters and tethers to hold it.  Along with its own native strapping.

The trailer looks good, the bike looks awesome. Keep us in the loop, some of us are green with envy.

Well, that did not go according to plan.  Gremlin was hiding and decided to bite me right as the green flag dropped.  Had to fix the wires in the main power switch.

Bottom end torque seems to be at a premium. With the 18/35 sprocket combo. Am worried about fhe battery with all the start/stall cycles from today.

But, glad to see the sohc4 lsr crew again.

That really did not go according to plan at all.

Oh well, here's a photo from the starting line.

How fast did the trailer go? Faster than the bike? ::) Come on, please tell us what went on. ;D Are you back home yet?

Trailer 85 high- 70 average
Bike went 97 on 5 psi boost.
Which is what it did last season.  So its not any worse at least.
Keeping the turbo spooled to 10psi wasn't easy.  But for the moment it was had a nice kick to it. And the carburetor is nowhere near dialed in for draw through.  As tunable as the hs40 is, i haven't replaced the right jets yet.  And float bowl capacity may be suspect.
Have been encouraged to build a new intake plenum for both carbs and fuel injection.  Specifically, boxed in carbs ala yamaha snowmobile and maxxecu mini.

What did you have to do?

Really crisp redline shifts and holding the throttle just right.

The tuning issues with the home made intake make me wonder.  How did Russ Collins (and others) get through draw thru development with their sanity?  Maybe there is something to the s&s super carbs simplicity?
There is such a wild flow dynamic going on with this bike.  Initially, it wants to flood.  Whacking the throttle open chokes it out..  As boost climbs. Opening the throttle more just can't deliver the fuel and acceleration stops.

I don't remember which needle jet i have in the carb.  But its tempting to order a range of them before hitting a dyno.
Also looking to fit really big pistons and nice sleeves in the cylinder.  The Class allows for such tinkering.   Displacement would help the turbo get to work sooner too.

Are you sure it's fuel starvation and not excessively rich at large throttle openings and boost? BTW, a blow-through setup is harder to tune than a draw through. ;)

Watching the wideband through the revs i could see things get leaner.  Crossing the finish line with a 16.5:1 reading and the turbo turning blue.
I'll take a look at the spark plugs soon.

I didn't race much on Wednesday - my gut was telling me something.
Sure enough - sat up at mile 3 and experienced a wardrobe malfunction.
Zipper tore open and the new air brakes slowed the bike down real quick.

Also, this group of goldwing riders showed up

One of the runs had the thunderjet closed.  17:1 - tried again with 1 turn open on thunderjet and it was 16:1 -

Still can't count on the main and needle so maybe its time to expand the float bowl capacity

I wonder if alcohol HS/RS parts would help BUT there are large. Will pressurizing the bowl help? And....you can completely disable the accelerator pump on that carb. I wouldn't give up on it yet. If you let me know exactly what it is doing in a PM....I can ask a friend who knows about these things.

We discussed the float bowl capacity before: the capacity determines how far you can go with the petcock turned off. ;) If the float is working properly, the fuel is replaced at the same rate it's being withdrawn.
What size main jet are you using? In the video of the dyno run you could only open the throttle 3/4 or so, which is the domain of the main jet.

Kind of like when Burt stuck his head up and had his goggles ripped off, but with less physical trauma. ;D
