Ha ha, 3 actually if you count my other RC51 Kelly, but I have all the fairings for the Varedero, which I need to paint once I get the engine running. (Ignition issue) It’s only done 28,000 km (around 17,500 miles) but came from a house that had burned down. No fire damage, but a lot of soot etc to clean off, and some horrible rattle can primer over all the plastics. It’ll be a project, but I do so love a project…. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks guys, to be honest I don’t know, but it’s got a temp gauge so I’ll take it for a ride and see what happens. Now that I’ve scored a Varadero I might put a fairing back on it and sell it. ;D

Terry…..  I totally missed this news until just now! My Varadero is a 2008 XL1000VA model. Fuel injected, ABS and linked brakes. What have you got? There is a FB website with lots of guys parting out bikes. What’s the plan for yours?

That looks magnificent John! Mine is an ‘06 model and my intent is to try to make it look as nice as yours. I swapped my ‘79 Yamaha DT250 for it, and eventually I’ll make it look nice enough to take on some decent rides. It’s got an aftermarket CDI which is supposedly the problem but I’ll do some investigating before I start throwing parts at it. I’m tall, so it’ll be a good fit for me and from everything I’ve read, they’re a very comfortable bike for taller riders. ;D

Steve….. It’s a bit heavy, but the instant it’s moving it really is a delightful ride. They retailed for Cdn$12,990 when new and did not sell well. I looked for years before I found one. Will be interesting to hear what Terry thinks of it!

Thanks John, I’m really looking forward to getting it running (no spark at the moment) and riding it, I just remembered that I have a BMW topbox that I took off the R1100RT that I rode down from Hervey Bay that was written off by the insurance company after I hit a massive pothole and dented the front rim and bent either the forks or front subframe. The ‘Dero has a rear rack to mount one, so I’ll do some backyard engineering to make it fit the Honda. It’s going to need a few parts and some paint, but shouldn’t be too difficult. ;D

Yes John, they'd been taken off by the guy I got it from as he was tearing his hair out trying to make it go. (no spark) It has an aftermarket CDI box which he suspects is faulty. ;D

Terry….Do some reading up. Mine has relay that cycles the fuel injection pump once to pressurize the system before startup. Very occasionally it doesn’t cycle when I turn on the key. When that happens, it will not start. So far, I just turn the key off and back on when I don’t hear it and everything works as it should. From what I’ve read it’s a common issue and I will be replacing the relay soon…… Good Luck! J.

Thanks but oh geez no, it's not ready for that.
It's missing the mirrors, a heat shield, needs a way better photo, and isn't a four!  ;)

Thanks John, I’ve ordered a workshop manual for it, and have decided to leave it alone until I receive it. I don’t want to start throwing parts at it until I know what I’m doing. My VTR1000F doesn’t have EFI or ABS etc, so I can’t swap out parts from it. ;D

Spotty and I am slowly bring my second Ducati Monster 916 S4. back to life after a few years of sitting dormant.

I swapped a Triumph Rocket III which was a great bike for the slightly dilapidated Ducati. It had been parked in Geelong, near the sea, and the salt air has corroded a few things. We decided that the starter motor is cactus fcuktas, so I ordered a new one, along with a new fuel pump (not needed, the old one works fine after we tested it out of the gas tank yesterday) and an alternator cover puller (not needed either, as Spotty and I made one that works fine)

The alternator cover is sitting in my ultrasonic cleaner, which, apart from cleaning the old oil and gasket sealant right out, it's slowly removing the paint, so I'll leave it in for a few days until all the paint has come off it, then etch prime and paint it, and it should look like new.

Meanwhile, I have the tank off my VTR1000F to remove the rust. I'm trying to be a fan of Evaporust, but my experience hasn't been great so far, so I'll leave it for another hot day (tomorrow) to flush out, then dry in the 100 degree heat. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
