I remember seeing at a car and bike show. in about 71 or 72 a Honda 4, think it was a 750, it had slightly off road suspension, knobbly tyres and a beautiful deep candy red paint job, I thought at the time it was a new bike, but it must of been a custom.

This is the K3 my son and I use on side roads around the farm. It’s definitely not for off-road, but great on gravel. Kenda dual sport tires on Lester wheels. I’ve got a slightly longer set of old school Koni units that are going on next.

That is one damn fine "Farm Bike".....  Here in Virginia you can register a vehicle with a "Farm Use" tag and hit the road, no inspection, tags, or insurance needed.  Of course it is for farm use only, but I see a lot of newer trucks running the tag with no cows on board.  I stuck a slightly illegal tag on mine this morning and ran to the barber shop which is only couple miles away.  Runs great, but I do see a new set of clutch discs in the future.  Not a lot of adjustment left and chatter.  In case anyone else is looking, I found the 7 discs set up for a very good price on "Scrambler Cycle", I have used the company quite a bit in the past and always fast shipping on good quality parts and he has a good selection in the 750 area....

The farm lic plate got so abused around here that the qualifications changed dramatically a few years ago. Having said that, I had more than few “red” SOHC cb750’s and the plate (tagged) did get moved around occasionally for test rides!

Did you take your latest K6 for a spin?

The farm lic plate got so abused around here that the qualifications changed dramatically a few years ago.

We have a "farm plate" on the utility trailer I use when hauling bikes.  You have to have an Agg Exempt card which my buddy with the ranch has. Registration was $8 for the year

I have always heard from the superior sex, "You can't go wrong with a little black dress", so that is what this Old Girl ended up with.  The side covers were already painted and looked professional, so other that buffing and cutting in the badges with new paint, they will be done. The tank got basic black automotive spray can and three good coats of 2K clear.  I will decide tomorrow morning whether to wet sand or not.  Yes I took the easy way out, and damn glad I did.....

Our old K3 (picture posted above) looks awesome with a gold stripe. I like it. Years ago we painted my wife’s 400f to match our 550K and 750K8. Like the dress, black always works (if you do the prep!).

I went ahead and bit the bullet and changed transmission and alternator covers this afternoon.  I thought about sanding and painting the flaking chrome ones on the bike, but the aluminum ones just look right.  I knew I had a good alternator and rotor so I switched those out also with the parts bike since I had no idea what the condition was of charging system from the donor.  Going to refill with oil in the am and test everything to include a set of new clutch discs.  I am getting pretty close, so I will probably hit DMV next week, do the title transfer and post it at price where it will sell, hopefully.  I really am on the fence about the parts bike, it does have a good title and is complete with carbs and a decent tank, but I am pretty sure the locked motor is toast.  Might just throw them up as a pair and let someone else do a 750 motor swap, those days are in the past for me....

A step in the wrong direction.  I thought I was getting close to making a sale on the bike, but I walked in the garage a couple of days ago and was greeted with the smell of raw gas.  A huge puddle under the bike from the overflow tubes.  I had mounted the painted and sealed tank with a new petcock, which I had tested prior to install, but it apparently failed.  I pulled the fuel line with shut off in closed position and fuel was still flowing.  I am going to have to see if I can rebuild the old one, or try another replacement, it is the single outlet style which are my least favorite due to flow and fuel line routing. I had not rebuilt the carbs due to how clean they were, but new quality kits are on the way.  Even with the petcock leak the float valve seats should not have leaked that bad in my humble, slightly mechanically inclined, opinion.  The bad, another ding to already small profit margin, the good, apparently I am going to have a full winter project.  Nothing like the joys of fooling with vintage motorcycles.  At least I get to eat turkey this week, so repairs may have to wait.  It is hard to bend over with a really full belly........

Hopefully a useful word of advice in time, here: AVOID using the brass (jets and needles) that might come in your carb kits. Otherwise you will end up with a bad-running bike.

The float valves will work, but will be much stiffer than the OEM ones, so I set the floats 1mm deeper than OEM to restore the otherwise-lost low midrange performance.

 Check  the fiber washers on the screws that hold the petcock to the tank, if they are missing or in poor shape the fuel will by-pass the valve and leak right on through.
 Another lesson I learned the hard way. BTW, open the garage door a little to allow the fumes to vacate.

Much appreciated advice HM, particularly on the float height. I always try to use the original carb hardware when possible.  I have found with the cheap rebuild kits, the needles are the wrong size most of the time along with the thread pitch on the jets.  I have picked up three cans of carb cleaner, the parts probably won't be here until after the Holiday, so I am taking a break for the time being since I broke a piece of the side cover pulling the tank off when I found the mess.  It can be fixed, but it is what my darling Wife refers to as "Male Frustration" when you try to address a problem in pissed off state of mind.  She still brings up the incident many years ago when looked out the kitchen window and watched me beat a chainsaw to death against the side of a tree.  My "MF"  level (Appropriate Abbreviation) has gotten much better since I have aged, but I can still have my moments....

The tank is the threaded male female spout style, no tank screws.  I have an extra cheapo petcock, the old one which has a rebuild kit on the way, and the new leaking one, between the three I will figure something out.
