Ride 1 105 miles
There it’s done, I got my first ride in before you all finished 21, phew. The temp is cooperating at 75f, woohoo!
I was a little reluctant to remove my jacket liner for the first ride but it was the right thing to do and I opened the vents a bit later in the ride.
I started at Hines and Merriman where there is ongoing bridge reconstruction. Most every one of my rides involves some portion of Hines drive, usually not this section, but I have been on Merriman road over that bridge 1000’s of times and being without it for a year is going to add a lot of time and miles to my cage time. It didn’t take them any time to demolish the old bridge, must not have been much except gravity holding it together. Then a Uturn on Hines and out to Northville and 7 mile road, past all the horse farms, some demolition of old farmhouses and much new construction of deluxe homes.
At Whitmore Lake I was going to turn back but called my bride, visiting nearby with my daughter, and so we met at the Grecian Isles/Zeus Coney Island for lunch. Lunch special: Two Coneys, Greek salad, Diet Coke a bargain at $8. I didn’t finish the coneys, and no pic either. Do you all know Michigan coney dogs? A standard hot dog with Chili mustard onions, yum!
Afterwards, down Whitmore Lake road to North Territorial where there is a high density housing development going in on 91 acres. Washtenaw county has avoided this sort of development in the past, and it has made North Territorial into the most popular road amongst bikers. But the times they are a changing, as suburban sprawl devours 91 acres of Washtenaw county farmland.
The Honda performed very well, I didn’t push it on the new BT46’s. I ran the bike on reserve for much of the ride, the 105 miles devoured 2.2Gal of last years gas, and was refilled with 2.2 Gal of fresh VPower
