Hey Bud, do they do a 7 ounce steak challenge? That’s even probably more than I can eat sadly? I’m really looking forward to eating some American food, I love cooking so have ordered some cornmeal from Amazon and am going to try making some cornbread with bacon, cheese and chillies in my waffle maker. I prefer savoury meals to sweet stuff, and have been watching lots of American Youtube cooking shows, so hopefully it won’t taste like sh1t….. ;D
Cornbread waffles…that’s a new on me.  Sounds good.  I’ve made cornbread before with all that stuff in it.  Goes good with chili.

Good point mate, I’m going past the grocery store today so I’ll have to pick up a can of chilli. It won’t be as good as anything in Texas, but might be a taste of things to come. I don’t know about Marie, but I’m hoping to pick up an old Dyna to ride. ;D

Ride #13, 92 miles

It was such a nice day I ditched my plans to do some work and went for a ride.  I headed up to Llano for some gas and figured it would be a good day to stop and sit outside while having something to eat.  The bluebonnets and wildflowers are still out in force, so I stopped for some pics in front of this old schoolhouse on the way.

I was thinking about trying the taco truck in Llano again that a mentioned a few rides back, which was closed.  I decided to head to the Castell General Store instead.  Quiet little town on the river with plenty of tables outside.  I had some tacos the last time I was there, but I have heard their hamburgers were really good.   I seemed like a good idea.  As I approached to town I noticed a lot of cars and trucks...and I mean a lot!  People everywhere.  The store was packed.  Hundreds of people and all the tables were full.  Turns out some bicycle rally thing was going on there.  Oh, well.  There went my plans for some food.  I just kept rolling.  Another failed attempt at eating lunch on a ride.

Several miles later I passed this little building and stopped for a photo.  I've ridden passed it several times.  I have no idea what it is/was.  There are some electrical wires on the side, like maybe it was an old community phone booth or something.  I thought about opening the door and taking a peek, but then thought about what might come charging out of it if I did.

That was about it.  Headed home the long way and enjoyed the rest of the ride.

Great pics Bud, and sorry you didn't get something to eat. I didn't go for a ride yesterday as it was really cold, plus I had to run some errands, but today was a much nicer day, and as I'm going into hospital tomorrow for some minor back surgery and don't know when I'll be riding again, I thought I better knock over ride #14 as I don't know how long it'll be to #15. The Triumph was "weapon of choice" today as while it was nice and sunny, there was a chill in the air.

I headed out on my usual lap, but took a turnoff a bit further than I usually do, and wow, am I glad I did, I rode thru a valley with some beautiful countryside, I could have stopped several times to take pics, but decided that I'll go back that way on a few more rides and take some more pics.

Rocket iii Sunday 2 April 2023 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

This extended my ride by 20 miles or so, but it was well worth it. The road really called for a bike that I could throw around tight corners faster, but the big girl acquitted herself quite well. Next time I think I'll take the K0 or the Sporty though, they're better scratchers. I'd built up a mild hunger, so I stopped at the chicken shop, and the guy who runs the place just looked at me and suggested, "Small chips and gravy?" and I thought, "Gravy?, Why not!"

Rocket iii Sunday 2 April 2023 4 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

Gravy really made a difference, I was actually able to eat 3/4 of my meal today, whereas usually more than half goes in the trash. Nothing wrong with the food, it's delicious, but when your stomach will only hold 250ml (8.5 fluid ounces) a lot goes in the trash. The gravy must have worked as a lube. Anyhoo, I jumped back on the big bugger and rode it like I stole it all the way home. Hopefully I'll be back in the saddle sooner rather than later. ;D

Here's hoping your surgery is successful and you're back on two wheels soon.

Terry, while your back is healing you can plan new rides.
Google map show roads and restaurants.
Menus probably on the
restaurant's web page if not found direct on Google map.

I have a few new roads/routes and restaurants to check when possible to ride.

Probably 2 weeks left, maybe a few days more.
Almost 3 weeks, cold spring not cool :(

I'll wait for +15C and sand free roads.

Beautiful day here, 69 °F with hardly a cloud in the sky.  100+ mile ride #9 completed.  Was hoping to head south down to the Hocking Hills area, but some wind damage that needed attention kept me closer to home.  Ended up getting re-acquainted some of my favorite twisty roads in the area.

Serviced the NC700X over the weekend so it got the nod for today's outing.  These bikes usually get ho hum reviews, but I'm loving it.  Smooth as silk, 80 miles to the gallon, all-day comfort, and with the Michelin Road 5 tires fitted, it will carve up a twisty road to beyond my abilities.

Best of luck Terry, hope you are back in the saddle very soon, and pain free!

That's a nice looking bike Dennis, I would have loved it last weekend for carving thru the corners on that new route I found on Sunday. I really must make my Ducati 916 S4 a bit more "tall rider friendly" so I can actually ride it, I've owned it since March last year and only rode it once.

Terry's Ducati S4 25 Mar 2022 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I'm doing fine, thanks for all the well wishes, I did all the wrong things yesterday as you'd expect, but survived unscathed, and today my back feels pretty good. Funnily enough, my other aches and pains (knees, hips and shoulders) are more noticeable, so I'm taking that as a good sign. I reckon I'll be back in the saddle by the weekend, I want to explore that area that I rode thru on Sunday on the Sporty this time, it's a lot more fun in fast corners than the Triumph, which is more comfortable, but less enjoyable in the twisties.

I'm loving having this week off, and it's Easter on the weekend, so I need to find something to do over the next few days. The powdercoater didn't get the message that I want my Mach III frame powdercoated so it's another couple of days away, but I've promised Dion I'll build a CB750 (836) engine for his next project, so I'll start putting that together, and that should keep me busy. ;D

Finally a ride on my blue K6.
Sunny weather 13-11C*

Food included, kebab with bread.
165km (ca: 100miles)
Stopped at my favourite bike stop 40km from home, Salbohed a small village with nice roads in 4 directions to and from it.

After the kebab continued another 40 km to a smaller town for refueling at Shell.

Almost same way back home.
The hard clutch springs and a little bit cold fingers made me to order new set of Barnett springs for CB750, 56 lbs.) Hopefully no slip.
Now the harder CB500 springs,  66 lbs force.

After eating for a while into the juicy spicy meat.

Forgot this one. Nice road after Salbohed heading Avesta. Same place as above.

Awesome.  Glad you were able to get out.  They call those sandwiches “gyros” in the US.  A kebab is food on a stick in the US, usually preceded by the word “Shish”.

Looks tasty!

That’s great PeWe, you beat me out! Good for you. I started my CB this afternoon, rolled up and down the side streets at 25mph, and once out on the main road to make a couple higher rpm shifts. 66f now and a few more degrees tomorrow, maybe I will venture out then for a proper ride. My CB turned about 3 turns before it fired for the first time in 2023. Wahhh wahhh wahhh wahhh vroooooom. I crank the idle screw up for a bit and keep the choke at 3/4? +/- for a while but can’t walk away or the idle will take off to 5k? rpm. So I stand by while it warms and back the idle screw out and ease the choke open incrementally a couple times. It would be nice to have an idle screw at the triple tree.

Yes, it is very relaxing just cruising around.
Roads better than I thought. No ice nor sand on the small roads.
I had planned to wait for +15C (59F) and sunshine.

Todays sunshine and 56F made me to take a ride. I could not wait another week.
Rain later this week.

Idle adjusted to 1200rpm when engine is warm will work rather well when cold too. After a start with choke.

I like that rpm for idle, easier to ride in the city with take offs.

Well done Per, I was hoping for a ride on the weekend but we had the coldest weather since 2020 apparently, and while I’m happy to ride on a cold day, it was raining as well so instead I drove my little truck to Bairnsdale to visit my mum. Had delicious Chinese food for dinner last night which made it well worth the 400 mile drive. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

A daytrip with delicious food is part of the good life independent of number of wheels ;)
A Chinese restaurant somewhere on a good ride route would be fine! ;D

I have adjusted the fork today removing 3mm shims under top caps when fork felt a little bit hard yesterday.
Another ride is therefore needed to verify if all small bumps will feel better, less.

The softer version of Barnett clutch springs will hopefully arrive soon too.
My left hand fingers were tortured at last ride using the harder model for CB500/550.
Not much need of clutch when gearing up when cruising was in my mind during the way back home.

Plates were bead blasted before last years season so they will probably grip without slip with CB750 Barnett springs.

I can twist the throttle with care now when carb settings are finalized and good power on dyno charts.
Look forward to not change rear tire that often.
3 times last year, ca: 10500 km, hopefully another +2000km on last tire ;)

I was a little reluctant to remove my jacket liner for the first ride but it was the right thing to do and I opened the vents a bit later in the ride.
I started at Hines and Merriman where there is ongoing bridge reconstruction. Most every one of my rides involves some portion of Hines drive, usually not this section, but I have been on Merriman road over that bridge 1000’s of times and being without it for a year is going to add a lot of time and miles to my cage time. It didn’t take them any time to demolish the old bridge, must not have been much except gravity holding it together. Then a Uturn on Hines and out to Northville and 7 mile road, past all the horse farms, some demolition of old farmhouses and much new construction of deluxe homes.
At Whitmore Lake I was going to turn back but called my bride, visiting nearby with my daughter, and so we met at the Grecian Isles/Zeus Coney Island for lunch. Lunch special: Two Coneys, Greek salad, Diet Coke a bargain at $8. I didn’t finish the coneys, and no pic either. Do you all know Michigan coney dogs? A standard hot dog with Chili mustard onions, yum!
Afterwards, down Whitmore Lake road to North Territorial where there is a high density housing development going in on 91 acres. Washtenaw county has avoided this sort of development in the past, and it has made North Territorial into the most popular road amongst bikers. But the times they are a changing, as suburban sprawl devours 91 acres of Washtenaw county farmland.
The Honda performed very well, I didn’t push it on the new BT46’s. I ran the bike on reserve for much of the ride, the 105 miles devoured 2.2Gal of last years gas, and was refilled with 2.2 Gal of fresh VPower

Congrats on your first Michigan ride Kevin. Yes the weather has been great lately, fingers crossed for more. We have a couple of Coney dog places in Kazoo but not as many as the Detroit area. My wife and I stop for chili dogs frequently at a drive in here called the Root Beer Stand.  Old school everybody eating in their car like the olden days and the tray hanging off the window. Four dogs and a large root beer is up around $9.50 which is not too bad for a quickie snack.  Safe travels !!

Was 98 here this afternoon in sunny southern Arizona. 95f tomorrow. Will cool off in a couple days. Not uncommon to be in steady 90s by May but 98f arrived a few weeks early. Mother Nature has been very bipolar this year...
