Cold exhaust
« on: May 15, 2023, 12:26:19 PM »
#2 exhaust cold as in cylinder not firing.  Tested coils and plugs. All within specs and all connections tight.
Tested caps.  The one leading to #2 registered 4.7 ohms.  The other 3 were at 5.4.
Could that be the issue?

Sounds like you might have a clogged jet / pilot circuit.

I think you may be right.
Switched caps and still cold.
Noticed I had gas coming out exhaust drain hole.  Did compression check and read 154 psi.
I guess it’s back to the bench.
If anyone else has any ideas, I would appreciate them.

Does that plug fire if you put it in a different cylinder?

Pill the float bowl, take a mirror and look up at the jets

In my case the float bowl was empty  :). Float valve needle was stuck up with gunk.

Starter spray can help to determine if a cylinder does not get fuel. Spray into carb and it will start.
If not, ignition.

Well with gas dripping out the exhaust sounds like a stuck open float or needle jammed and probably a fouled plug. That gas can migrate to the oil and if driven or run much won't do that cylinder any favors with the 'gas wash'. Maybe a screwdriver whack will fix it.
Have you pulled the plug yet to get an idea as to what's going on in there ?

Needle jet holder was not tight.  Almost completely out.  I wonder who was responsible for that?

Back running, just need to sort out other issues.

Thanks to all who replied

Quick carb job not completely assembled?
Main jet change or a PO that did not dare or forgot to tighten it?

Put your nose close to oil tank with cap off when engine has been running for a few minutes.
If it smell gasoline, change oil and filter.
