They are not cheap, so the bike's value can be good and well worth the trip.

Paint is okay for a survivor. some fading and scratches. Left side cover is very cracked up. Inside of tank is good. 2 and 3 pipes have holes in them. It was a fun trip with a good friend. Drove from my home in Victoria, BC to North Battleford, Saskatchewan. 3220 kilometers plus a 2 hour ferry ride. Great scenery, ocean to mountains to prairie and back. It runs and engine sounds good. 8900 miles on it. $1000 CAN. Good start for a rider bike. It needs a good clean up before being put away for a few months. I have to finish a GL1100 tribute bike for a friend that just passed first.

Cliff…. I hope to head off for a full day road trip with a good buddy, next week (assuming the bike owner accepts my offer). Only 400 kilometers, but I look forward to it! Great way to spend the time. $1000 seems a hell of deal too.

I wish these bikes could talk! I think the previous owner came from the Arnold school of mechanics. If tight is good, really tight is better. I'm surprised he didn't pull the spark plug threads out of the head! And the SAE bolt he used as a drain plug (with saw marks on the end of it) is another story. Good thing I have a spare oil pan to use while I repair the current one.
Anyway, now have spark, headlight bracket and broken turn signal replaced, front brake now working.
Next, the carbs come off.

I’m always amazed how tight some people feel they have to do stuff up! A few months  ago I helped a friend replace sprockets and chain on a cb650 he’d just purchased. I had to pull out my three foot “Johnson bar” and jump on it to loosen off the rear axle nut!

I have a few fork tubes I use for such things. A bit thick and heavy but they sure do the job.
So, should the owner of a project bike that has the stock exhaust pipes with the later year extra baffles get “no number” repops and re-jet to get a little extra punch?

Steve….. forever, “pipes and jet kits” have been sold as “horsepower in a box”. In my experience it’s mostly noise. Do the top end and get the bike running optimally. An 836cc kit is a better investment.
