Cb750K6 Trivia Question
« on: November 30, 2023, 03:08:41 PM »
Working on my K6 project today. Speedo and Tach are in really nice shape. I often wonder why only the K6 has these “green faced gauges”? Did any other Honda motorcycle have this bright colour? And why only 1976? I have no idea…..

I think the early 550F's had green instruments at least in Australia. I wonder what was the first Honda to have them?

'75 Goldwings had a darker green.  Real close to the K4 750 pictured earlier.  In '77 they switched to a really dark blue, then '78/'79 were black.

CB550/4 F1 UK models have the bright green clocks. The F1 over here would have been a 1976 build. The 550/4 F2 had darker faces on UK models.

CB750 F1 had same as K6.
I have a NOS F1 Speedo according to the box I got it in.
Km/h not that easy to find as more common mph.

NOS K6 tacho with correct redline. F1 higher rev redline.

They look too good to be used ;D

My K6 has its stock working speedo with the pedometer measured all adventures. Now for the 2nd turn.

I have bought a CB500 tacho by mistake that had same face except for red line later.
It did not show correct rpm, much higher on a CB750.

John

U.S. bikes:
the center code for the dark green 750 faces are "341"...which starts with cb 750 K2
the center code for the dark green '75 550F's is "374".....which starts with cb 550 K0
but the only official "proof " (U.S. bikes) does not state faceplate colors.

the gauges here are for a U.S. '75 550F....which is dark green..

My K5 has the green face/lights too. Fun color riding around at night mixed with the amber from the front turn lights.

I'd like to know who was the genius that gave the 78 Goldwing red gauge needles that become nearly invisible at night. The 79 model went back to white.
