Anybody else notice David is “missing”? I sent him an email and no answer. Anyone know what’s up?

I tried calling the latest phone # I had for him, and it went straight to a recording: "The person you are calling can't accept calls at this time." I hope he's OK.

Guys, I think David has passed away. :'( I found this obituary, and I know that David had relatives in Tennessee. Also, he was last active on March 5th, not 7th. RIP, my friend.

Damn. I was afraid of that……. David and I were trading emails on a fairly regular basis. Interesting man with a surprising amount of detailed information, about almost anything, packed away. Sure loved Volvos. He’ll be missed.

So sorry to learn that David has passed unexpectedly. Rest in Peace friend.

David posted a lot in the 24 rides thread and he had something to add much of the time.
I will have to go back and reread his posts.
Thanks John and Scottly

That is very sad news. He passed way too early. Why not another 25 years and countless of rides more?

He helped to keep the sohc forums boiling.

I don’t believe I have ever seen a photo of his motorcycle.

The picture of David and I was taken April 24, 2011, in Lordsburg, NM, while on the first Relay. I had first met him in person a few hours before, when Shawn and I picked him up in Wilcox, AZ, on our way to pick up the lizard. He rode shotgun and played navigator from Wilcox to Lordsburg and back to Wilcox, where we shared a snack at a fast food joint, where he teased me by telling the cashier to be sure to give me the senior discount! He then drove his ex-cop car back to Sierra Vista, AZ, where he lived at the time. IIRC, his work may have been related to the military base near there?
Sometime after that, he moved back to Tennessee, maybe after his father died, and then he happily returned to AZ; I don't recall the time-frame...

The last time I saw him in person was 11-7-2020. A few weeks before, he had asked me to pick up an RC plane for him in a nearby town, and hold it for him until he could pick it up on his way back from an upcoming trip to CA. While there, he had a trailer hitch mounted on his Mini, and picked up a nice motorcycle trailer. He called me en-route the day before, and while we were talking I kept hearing a banging clunking noise, which he said was coming from the new hitch, thinking the ball was the wrong size or something? When he got to my shop the next day, it turned out they had installed the nut on the ball with a nylon washer, which had smashed down, allowing the nut to back off, and the ball was shifting back and forth and up and down. Luckily, there was a hole in the shaft on the ball with a cotter pin in it that kept the nut from completely falling off. ::) After getting the hitch sorted, we went to a local place for pizza and conversation (including politics :o) before David headed back home to Tucson.

For those that don't know, RAF stands for Roof As Floor, a sort of nickname he got when he used patches made from the roof of one car to repair the rusted floor of a Volvo. ;D

I traded a few messages back and forth with David, he told me a bit about his 1966 Volvo 122S, I had one in the 70s for one winter. We hadn't met in person as I hadn't riden my wing back to San Diego after we started conversing, I ended up flying out and back last year to empty my storage units.
You never know when you will have the last time to see or talk with someone. Keep short accounts.

He had a Volvo Amazon 122S (Sport) 1966 ;) Interesting.

Dual SU carbs. 90hp
Engine, B18 which is almost 1.8L

I had an 142-69 with a B20 engine.
The Amazon looked much better. Very common around here when I was a kid and before me too! ;D

There are lots of tuning parts for the B18 engine. Bore to B20 and repair or upgrade carbs.

My 142  (2 doors, 4 doors called 144, 5 doors estate 145) got a Weber dual port36/36 which was way better than Stromberg.
No diaphragm that cracked. No iceplugs  wintertime either.

The 140 series and later 240 series were called Socialist containers due to the horrible box shape.

There where an 160 with B30 engine. 2 cylinders added making it to a 6.
160hp something.
