Norris D5 Cam
« on: June 08, 2025, 05:00:15 PM »
Hey everyone,
I recently picked up a mystery camshaft as part of a package deal. The only marking on it is Norris Cycle D5.” From what I've gathered, Norris may have some connection to Megacycle, but beyond that, I haven't been able to dig up much information. Following megacycles guide I believe the cam lifts would be around .324 and .283. Someone said the rocker ratio means you have to multiply that by 1.2 for the valve lifts, so somewhere around .39 and .34.

Has anyone here come across this cam or know anything about it?

Here's the card for a Norris D cam; not sure if it's the same cam? Note that it lists net valve lift in one place, and lobe lift in another.

What is "lifter checking clearance" referring to ??

Those look like Kenny Harmon cam numbers especially the duration on the exhaust cam.....valve is open a long time. Grind # also has an H in front of it. I also notice the ubiquitous 105LC.

I bet he's right ^ Kenny Harmon made cams with long exhaust duration for endurance racing. I have a KH-F cam in an 836 that's way short on compression for that cam. It needs the Honda F2 cam that was in it before.

just tried to go to Satanic Mechanic website to look up old cam specs and it seems to not be working anymore...that is a tremendous resource lost.
If it works good, it looks good...

Thank you all for the responses :). What sort of compression would I need to run to get good use of this cam? (I'm already porting the head).

10.5....probably more like 11. Problem is that exhaust duration. It will suck a lot of intake charge out into the exhaust and it kills compression. As Rob Muzzy once said...."I've never seen an engine make power with the valves open." I've never been a fan of long duration cams except for LSR stuff but hey....try it. You can always change it for something else. ;)
