Japan's tariff negotiator says the US's reciprocal tariffs will be lowered by next week
Japan's tariff negotiator said the US would revise tariffs on Japanese goods by September 16.
In an X post, he said there would be a reduction in Japanese automobile tariffs.
The tariff rate for goods from Japan stands at 15%, pre-revision.

That's good to hear.

David Silver posted a couple of his tariff charges on Facebook. For unknown source castings it can be 50% to as high as 200% England to US. He mentioned that it's difficult to determine the source of NOS parts. One shipment had a $34K tax, another is mistakenly over a half million. He said, try to get those fixed it's nearly impossible.
We may have missed the boat if anyone was waiting to get restoration parts from out of country. My advice is if it's in the country you are currently in, buy it now.

Received ebay message - Due to US policies, import fees for this item will need to be paid to customs or the shipping carrier on delivery. Learn more.

Japan is paying the tariff to the USA according to the president. So surely you will be refunded?

Or am I misunderstanding the situation?

I'm just sure a check will be arriving from Japan shortly. But don't hold your breath.

Definitely misunderstanding. The tariff is paid by the importing party. In this case, it is direct to the consumer. While businesses collect and pay when importing goods, the cost is also ultimately passed on to the consumer.
Similar is true for countries that collect a VAT (Value-Added Tax). Japan does also use the VAT system, the US does not.

I've pretty much put everything (with regard to motorcycles) on hold for the foreseeable future, just going to have to wait and see how it all flushes out. Really sucks...

My post contained a measure of Irish sarcasm.

I was working in Customs and Excise in pre EU single market days, applying duties and tariffs on imports. I got to bill those importers.

It just seems to me that a goodly percentage of the population of the USA is not as wise as you and I are, judging by what I hear on TV.

A little closer to $623,000 on that big one.
What he said about the staff may be spot on.  Imagine being a twenty something just trying to make the rent when the biz you work for says - "there have been some changes to international parcel billing".

It appears that if you buy it, and it comes across thew border, that makes you the importer!

Ha! Yeah, at least half the population here doesn't even try to understand. We're currently entering the FO phase of all this financial great againness and they still bend over backwards to deny observable reality.

Hey guys, remember that politics are not allowed. Let's try to keep the discussion to the effects of the tariffs, rather than the cause. ;)

Woohoo! I finally managed to merge 2 topics together without messing it up! ;D ;D

A friend's niece is marrying a fellow from England. Apparently, there's a "tariff" on him now too. It's just a fact. He went home, can't come back. Visa might take a year.

I ordered a set of pistons from Japan yesterday, for $100 USD. It will be interesting to see what transpires?

I've read that Japan post is temporarily halting most shipments to the US.due to the suspension of the De Minimus rule.

When is the US domestic manufacturing of quality vintage motorcycle parts going to kick in? This will alleviate any concerns about tariffs.

Pipe dream at best. Modern US domestic vehicle parts aren't even made in the US.

Sep 4 I ordered a pair of oem z1 mirrors from Japan for $145.60
15% of 145.60 is $21.84
Sep 10 DHL called, they want $37.67
So DHL wants $21.84 tariff + $15.83 for the "privilege" of paying the $21.83 tariff.
I want to order rims from Yamiya, waiting for tariff changes this week.
I want to continue buying from Yamiya, I hope the tariff is low so I can continue.

New Japan tariff rate Tuesday Sep 16.
New rate is secret, between 0% and 15%.
Anyone wants to guess?

Yeah, see that's the problem. DHL (and every other carrier) has to now collect tariffs on everything valued at less than $800.
That's most certainly thousands and thousands of extra packages.
To do that means adding people and capacity to their infrastructure and they're most certainly going to pass that expense on to customers.
