Red, White, Blue, and Gold

Today I will be installing the bottom tank trim (reproduction), NOS gas cap, and NOS Keihin fuel tap/petcock :) Waiting for tank and side cover emblems and small retaining clips that will be in the next consolidated shipment from the USA

All just part of playing the waiting game  ;)

The knock offs have no logo under the fuel bowl "nut", right?

I certainly am no expert on Original HONDA vs reproduction parts but Yes it looks like all the original NOS HONDA petcocks for sale have the stylized K logo on the bottom of the fuel bowl.  They also have a 2 letter code and Kanji letter stamped in the body and number 1 or 2 on the underside of the petcock lever.

You know you might be becoming a Honda nerd when you purchase new NOS parts but you still disassemble the old parts that are heading to the junk pile "just because"  ;)

Many sellers from Japan offer NOS Honda petcocks for up to $200 (crazy prices) on Ebay.  Here is the very best source I could find for the petcocks.  Original and no BS fake Honda packaging and boxes and no cheap metal lock washers or nylon washers.

Late Edit:  I just checked and seller is now Out of Stock :o

^ ^ ^ Thanks Mate ^ ^ ^ Excellent prices for original HONDA.  The Yamiya petcock rebuild kit with screws and red fiber washers is the best and most complete I have seen anywhere for sale  :)

You will probably get better shipping price to Thailand than I get to Sweden.
They changed from the Covid era, skipped Japan Post and ship with UPS instead which adds a lot.

Sorry I don't have a good source for original NOS Honda gas caps.  Same caps were used on many models - not hard to find but often very expensive. Many used for sale but often rusted and bad chrome.  Lots of aftermarket available but not sure of quality.

I bought this one back in March (not a bargain price) - chrome is flawless and the spring loaded mechanism is in mint condition with a like new rubber seal.

The "K" is for Keihin" .
and like someone said, that old one looks very rebuildable.

Honda gas caps and cleaned petcock.  Very surprised how well the petcock cleaned up - looks like new inside and out.  Rebuild kit ordered and should be here in about 1 week.

OEM Honda Gas Caps.  Construction looks identical for both

On the left/bottom removed from my K1.  Spring loaded mechanism is chrome plated

On the right/top NOS.  Spring loaded mechanism looks like some kind of gold anodized?

On the right/top NOS.

Did it come with hardware to mount it?  Your old pin appears bent, but obviously can be straightened.
It's technically a one-time use pin but can be reused but some have had mixed results.

Hondaman used to sell a small bolt kit for mounting a new cap

Used a new pin  and installed with no issues.   NOS gas cap still had the nylon spacers. Shiny new gas cap really pops on the Yamiya tank. Also I noticed that although my CB550 gas cap looks the same as the CB750 it is different with a much more rounded and deeper/longer back (taller gas tank neck?)

CB750 tank trim ordered from David Silver Spares a long time ago.  I don't remember why I chose DSS for the tank trim over others that are available.  The DSS reproduction trim has a very accurate curved bend that fits the shape of the tank.

A quick followup - Very disappointed with the DSS trim. Comparing it to the original Honda tank trim:

DSS tank trim the black stripe is centered in the middle and not toward the top edge.  No top edge bevel. Too round and not flat enough in the middle.  Aluminum is too dull and not shiny enough (although not actually chrome the original Honda trim is very shiny and looks like chrome).

bottom line from your posts is that yamiya is about as close as or equal to original Honda as can be.  They would have to be my go to if I wanted as close to original factory as possible. They did the impossible by matching color of original covers.

100% agree.  Yamiya is consistently best quality, closest to original, excellent prices, super fast shipping, and excellent packing.  I've shown the Yamiya tank next to the original side covers for comparison to around 10 people here in the neighborhood.   There was universal agreement that the Yamiya Candy Gold is a nearly identical match to the original Honda Candy Gold.

Some of the comments:

New is a little darker
New has more color
Old maybe has faded from sun
Old looks very good for 50 year old paint

I'm a Yamiya fan too. Hard to beat. I've received parts here in Hawaii from them much faster than from mainland US.
