in australia its varying from $3.80 to $6.50 ( australian ) per US gallon ( 3.8litres ), those variations will often be in two petrol stations next door to each other

that price is for E10, 98 octane would be about 30% more. And as the Vmax will only run on 98, it won't be coming out of the garage for a while, it gets about 60-70 miles on its 12 litre tank

Gas at the local station today was still $3 a gallon, and diesel was $3.50. Down the road a few miles at the Maverick station it looked like they had raised the price of gas from $2.99 to $3.29. Last week I checked on the price of gas in my home town in California, and it ranged from $4.50 to $5.20.

Yep, when something happens the greedy jack up the price immediately for the oil already in the system that was purchased at the cheaper price. Then we have to wait for oil prices to come down and the cheaper oil to enter the system before we get the cheaper price.
Pure greed.

Gas here in Mexico City is around $22MX per liter, or about $84MX per gallon -- roughly $4.75USD. That being said, a year ago it would have been closer to $3.75US as the US dollar has taken a steep dive in the past 12 months, from around $21+MX to around $17MX. The government uses subsidies and taxes to keep the price stable. And since most of my income is here in Mexico I don't much care about the fluctuations of the USD (when it comes to gas, but I am now on hold for bringing more money down here from the US for another house down here as I would lose about 15% from where it normally would be due to the very weak dollar).

Also needs to be said that Mexico isn't launching missiles at anyone, nor is anyone launching missiles at Mexico.

Not really the rest, but Sinaloa, Jalisco, and quite a few other states. I am sure they have a presence here in Mexico City but we don't have any of the violence (like a week and a half ago -- things were completely calm here).

But then again... we are talking about the price of gas.

Gas and diesel at the local Shell station both went up by 30 cents per gallon since yesterday afternoon, but the Chevron station 3 miles down the highway still had gas for $3.00/gallon, so I filled up my little Chevy Sonic.

Seems like maybe 3.09 average in the NW corner of Ohio, as N and as W as you can get really. Lots of incentive plans at various station chains though, I have an $.85 a gallon credit on up to 20 gallons at Lassus that I will use this week. Wife hits Lassus every day for a breakfast sandwich and their prepared food has the most incentives. But the program locks you into the lowest price of the day as well.

1.9 USD for ONE liter is cheap over here in Sweden! 98 octane RON E5.

A few years ago up to 2.70 USD when green minded mentally ill people were in charge.

95 RON E10 around 1.8 USD
Why pay for harming the engine with its fuel system?
My car is designed for higher than 95. It takes more fuel with less power if filling it with 95. Total price is more than 98 and less power.

After program upgrade 98 RON minimum. Both bikes gets 98 E5.
My K6 would love 100 RON as they have in Greece.

E10 -15 mix better for me ;D
Here my new fav, Hernö Navy strength 57% (100 proof). Same total strenght when mix with more flavour.
8cl is enough instead of 12cl with the 40% bottles I used before

I dont really understand why diesel is more expensive, it doesnt seem like it would have to be refined as much?

I've only had 1 diesel vehicle, A Chevy truck many years ago.  Had issues and didnt like it, that's when I jumped to Toyota trucks and havent looked back.

I bought my 93' F250 diesel truck in 98' when diesel was cheaper. I commuted in it for a few years before the price of diesel went up. I still have it but now it's parked most of the time. It still runs great and it's ready to go when we need a real truck for a big job. I wish diesel was cheaper but I can't control that. So I keep it in working order and run it occasionally to keep it that way. It will be the boys truck eventually. It's the last year of mechanical injection so it's very reliable and only has 147k miles on it, lots of life in it.
I also thought diesel was cheaper to produce than gas so I don't understand why it has been so expensive for so long.

Can diesel cost more since a diesel engine has higher MPG?
The government has found out to charge the same MPG price as for gasoline?

When I hit the driving age in the late 60's, I remember distinctly the gas/ diesel split. How cheap diesel was.
Then working for an oil Co. I learned about the cracking process, diesel being on the lower (cheaper) rung.
I also remember basically empty interstates with limited trucking.
Jump forward and gradually saw the trucking industry  explode. Then the push to "clean" up diesel fuel by removing sulphur content ( more expensive process) Furthermore I believe there was a significant increase in home oil furnace purchases ....central systems , new and older homes .....over natural gas (cost more) ...rapid growth in new homes.
All increasing the demand for "kerosene". Throw in free enterprise.

It also takes more crude oil to make a gallon of diesel than a gallon of gasoline...
