So it's going right from the Sandblasters to the PowderCoaters?  probably Ideal way of doing it.  When's the ETA for it's return?

Great work!

Well, after stripping, there is a bit of welding that needs to be done, then it's off to powder coating. The Sandblaster has a bit of work pilled up in front of his shop and said it will probably be one or two weeks before he gets it done.

Okay, so It's kind of an update. The sand blaster still has everything, but in the meantime my work on the bike (other bits I have here at my place) has been delayed by this:

I might not have read far enough back, but what's the story on the pipes? Custom made? Old and redone? 1/2 and 1/2?

Post up a few details if you can, and also your cost to get them done.

Thanks!

He covers all of that in the thread around page 9.  They are Benji specials and cost a pretty penny!  But worth every bit!

My Steering stem is done!

Just as a refresher, the Katana steering stem ended up being about half an inch too short for the CB neck, so I had to extend it just a bit.

Check out this welding job:

That was done by a man who knows what he is doing. It was one of my Dad's co-workers. Dad asked him how it would cost and the guy said, "eh, buy me lunch some time."   ;D ;D

Front end together and hanging out:

The sand blaster should be done soon... soon... I hope... I am getting itchy to ride this thing.

I got my Ducati out yesterday and went for my first ride of the year. It felt good to get out on two wheels.

Gettin' there!  Are you going to paint or polish the lowers on those forks?
How's that Monster?  I like the simplistic/naked look of them a lot.

I love my Monster. It's a great bike.

My plan right now is just to clean up the fork lowers. I plan to powder coat the frame a silvery grey, same as the forks. If they're not too beat up (once I get through the dirt on there) I'll probably just leave them alone. If they're not at least passable as "decent," then I'll probably have them coated with the frame.

Small setback -
I was opening up the tach to get some new gauge faces and while trying tp pull off the needle, the whole post for the needle snapped right off. Now I will be looking for a new tach as well.

Anyone got an extra tach for a 78 750 lying around?

I just won a cheap, busted up tach off of ebay. I'm paying $18 (including cross-country shipping). It's beat to snot and has cracked glass, but if the internals work, I've got everything else that I need.

Anyone heard from Dustyc lately? He had been making some gauge faces. I sent him a PM the other day but have not heard back from him.

I just got my new ignition in the mail!!! Cycle-X's Power Arc Ignition and coils. Looks to be a pretty straight forward deal to set it up. Should be able to set the coils in the stock location. One I get the frame back I can do some test fits.

The frame is done (sandblasting), by the way, I'll be picking it up on Friday.

Exciting times for you my friend!  You have a busy weekend ahead, getting everything mocked up.  If you are not going to paint/powder coat the frame right away, make sure to use gloves to prevent the oil on your hands from flash rusting it.  I'm sure you know that already.

keep it up!

I got everything back from the sandblaster. Here it is all packed up in the back of my Jeep:

I really like that color and am going to keep it. Might be a pain for the powder coater to make sure it's all covered.  ;D ;D ;D
Now I've got a little welding to do and some quick decisions to make as to whether I'm going to cut certain tabs and what not. I don't plan to use the center stand, but I'm not sure if I'm going to cut the tabs off or not... We'll see... probably...   ;)

You really like the color of the sandblasted frame?  It is a great shade of gray, I don't think I've seen a frame remain that color.  Should be interesting.

Got the frame Kit welded in as well as finished off the welds on the down tubes. That should help stiffen up the front end a bit.

Now I've just got to take a grinder to the welds and make them pretty.  ::)  Then it's off to powder coating and then assembly!! (finally!!)

Got most of the welds ground down and smoothed out. Looks much better. I should be finishing them off tomorrow morning and will post some pics then.

Then I've just got to weld on a mounting point fr the brake stay arm on the swingarm and I can get it all powder coated.
