How much does your bike insurance cost?
« on: June 05, 2007, 01:52:31 PM »
I just got the bill from State Farm.... and it's $200/year for basic liability.  I am 40 y.o. and have a squeeky clean driving record.  It seems too much for a 32 year-old 550cc motorcycle that cost me only $900.

Am I just being cheap, am I unreasonable, or am I getting a deal?

160 bucks a year for basic liability. It includes renters insurance. If I added another classic moto, it's only go up 10 or 15 bucks a year.

Ditto that. I had to spend a little extra time
explaining that the bike was 30 years old, they
wanted to insure the old 500 as a CBR since that
was all they had listed on their computer.

Check out Dairyland.  All of the bikes that I have had only liability have been less than $50 per year. I currently pay $38 per year for my '73 CB500.  38 year old male with good record.  The bad thing is they are usually about 2 days late getting the new card to you.

WOW :o :o :o

With Nationwide, "With Nationwide is on your side", sorry there, I just can't get that phrase out of my mind.

I'm only paying $80 for the full year on my 75' CB400F. And that's only for liability.

What you should ask is how much are you covered for!!!!

I'm covered for $300,000 damage to someone else and $120,000 to cover myself. It really should be the other way around.
Go figure!

I would keep searching! 8)

my '79cb650 costs 80/yr, and thats with me and the wife insured, I've got a squeeky clean record, but she has a few speeding tickets/accidents in the past 5 years.
I was told if i add another 650(going to soon) the jump i price should be about 20.00/yr extra.

Oh, thats through geico. Basic liability.

Gar, you and I are both in MI and sounds like we pay the same. $202 PER BIKE with Progressive. Allstate claims they can insure all 4 bikes for $160 each.

I'm thinking about giving Haggerty a call, as some guys have had their old bikes insured with them and they are worth less than 3 grand...

Definitely keep shopping, but keep in mind that all these guys that you just asked all live in different states with different state requirements and different rates.  Even with same states and insurance companies, a guy in the city will pay differently than a guy in a rural area.  It's all somewhat of a scam.

What about an accident where we need treatment?

How will our basic liability deal with that?  I pay $89.00 a year but I am thinking of adding some serious medical coverage because my health insurance provider might try and dick me out of coverage.

$140/ year in NY. I don't shop around because the office I go to (often) has totally incredibly sexy mouth-watering chics that don't wear bras and A's in super-tight pants..

150/year in KY with Progressive.  Also have my pickup and the wife's van ins. through Progressive, so got a little discount there.  Coverage is 100,000 property damage, can't recall the injury amounts.

My 750 is over $750.00 per year

The 350 has collector plates so it's only 125.00 per year.

It seems like basic coverage isn't that different for everyone. Here in Taxachusetts if I was to get basic/compulsory insurance my bill would be $80. However I opted for "Optional Bodily Injury To Others"...$100k per person/$300k per accident...$41, "Medical Payment For Others"...$5k per person...$145 and "Collision"...Actual Cash Value/less $1k deductible...$61. That adds $247 to the bill. Deduct my $19 credit for being a spiffy driver and you get a $308 bill. It would be a little easier to take if you could get serious road time in the winter.

$241.00/year for the 2004 Sportster, full comp, collision and uninsured coverage including $1,000 added accessories.  I am curious what it will be when I add the CB650, and eventually the CB350.  Both my wife and I are covered, and here in SoCal, I have a long riding season ;D.

Sheesh.  Think we have it the worst in Ontario.  I pay $550 for my BMW R75 and was paying $460 for my CB550F.  Liability only.  No deals on additional bikes so my second bike will cost ANOTHER $500 to insure.

Wish we had some of the classic insurance available.  There's one deal you can get in Ontario for a 30+ year old bike and a rider who has been licensed for a long time.  I think the prices are similar but you get into full coverage of the bike.  Appraisals are needed and I think the bike needs to be in original condition.

I pay between $150 and $200 a year per bike.  Coverage includes minimal liability (I mean, c'mon...), I'm the only rider (and can only ride one at a time...), but they are insured for theft and collision damage.  I'm with State Farm and get about every discount they offer.  And...I haven't had a moving violation in 25 years.

But I live in a major metropolitan area.

$1200 a year for my CBR600 (Other quotes were over $2000-2500/year) with full coverage from Allstate but they don't insure bikes over 25 years so couldn't get a deal even if I wanted to!

Don't even ask about my k8. It currently sits uninsured while I make her road worthy but it is almost impossible to insure a classic north of the border...only a couple of companies will touch them and yes you need an appraisal (dalton timmis I believe has a classic program) but when I inquired last year it would have been more than a grand a year!
