750 engine number confusion
« on: December 16, 2008, 06:57:55 PM »
Not that it should be the most important thing to me but my engine number is CB750E-2520720.  I don't see that anywhere in this handy chart:  http://hondachopper.com/modifications.html
No 25 anything for that matter...

Ah crap.  Nevermind.  Probably in the same line as 2470427 (K6 I guess)

Sounds right to me.  The numbers on that chart are read as "Change applies to this engine number and later."

Any possibility the cases were replaced? I think fresh cases from Honda don't have a number on them. Then a safe area would be chosen to stamp a number since it is virtually meaningless anyway. That is it is not a legal identifier for registration purposes, but we use it for modification purposes.

THis is simply a WAG. What does your frame say it is, just curious.

My frame is:  CB750-2331942.
According to "The Restorers Guide to K and F Series" by John Wyatt, that puts your chasis as a K4, offered in 1974, though some may be titled 1975. K5s start at frame number 2500001.

The engine number is likely a K6, they start at 2428762 and K7 starts at 2700001. Seems a pretty broad range there... still Likely a K6.

FYI: Engine modifications did not always occur at model change points. Some could be mid-model run.

That is it is not a legal identifier for registration purposes, but we use it for modification purposes.

There are states that use the engine number for Title purposes.
I think Wisconsin is one of them, from what I've been told - of course that's anectdotal information.

That would be problematical for some, not for us Hoosiers. Likely those records could be updated if necessary.
