Good day eh.
« on: October 29, 2007, 10:48:03 AM »
First off, gotta say this is THE best site I have ever come across for our beloved Hondas. Now for my story.May of 1970,I buy a 70 candy red 750at Nelson Motorcycles in Toronto,my employer.Total cost,$1350.00.Assembled it myself.Yanked the baffles about the third day!Rode it otherwise stock for the first few years. Then the Hi-po bug bit me.First up,Yosh 812 with alum rods,CR spec crank,Daytona cam,and ELP Tarkus inspired paint scheme{what the hell was I thinking!]Any way,not fast enough.Next up,rip it apart, chrome the frame and swing arm, install RC 1000 Cobra kit with golden rods, webers, factory CR gearbox, and heli-coil every alum thread in the engine. To this I added factory CR forks and added air adjust. To finish the front I installed  the RH CR caliper holder and thinned the twin discs as per CR specs.Top it off with a genuine Kawi H1R fender, and braided brake lines.A Lockhart cooler tapped into the scavenge line kept things from melting. In the rear,a Yam 650 front caliper and Honda disc with Marsocchi shocks. The bike was now real fast{by mid 70's standards]I enjoyed many miles of happy motoring, including a few entries at Mosport Park.I still own the bike, though parked for now awaiting a teardown for new main and rod bearings.I owned a '75 400F that I raced in production and endurance events in Canada and U.S.That was one fine machine Mr. Honda. For the present I ride an '83 1100F that is plenty quik stock so is only being subjected to minor refinements to more personalize it.Gotta love those gold wheels! So thats my story and I'm stickin toit.Glad to be aboard and hope to contribute.

Where abouts in T.O.? I live in Whitby but work in downtown (Bay and Adelaide area). My scoot is still a slow work in progress but I do have my CBR as a daily (well lately more like monthly) ride...

Wellcome to the forum!

Hi guys, thanks for the welcome.I am from East York [GO GOLIATHS]but now live in Windsor.Unfortunatly,I am good with a wrench but suck at anything puter related,so there will be palms on the streets of TO before I am able to post pics.Speaking of rock, Steppenwolf indeed hail fromTO and got there start in Yorkville,Though John Kay is from I think Germany.I must 100% biasly state though, the best of them all from The Great White North are the lads from Weinerpeg,Burton and Randy.

Hi an Welcome..eh!!

I thot Steppenwolf came from Oshawa areea, saw them play in Sturgis one year. John Kay is from an area in Europe known as East Prussia in former times (now Poland).. same area as my Mother and my wifes family is from. John Kay changed his name when he came over to Canada.

How did you like the Webers on the Cobra? and did you run a magneto? Did you get the laying rubber &wheelieing at the same time those were known for??

We hired a toolmaker for the plant where I worked. came from a die shop in Winsor.. about a year ago.. the Auto industry is sure suffering in your town.. hope it turns around..

Hi 754.The webers were the best carbs I ever used, bar none. However, what I thought was a low speed carb problem turned out to be ign.In the mean time,I had ditched the DCOE's and installed 29 mm Mikuni smooth bores.Problem still present.Install Martek ign;problem gone. Now,I raced the bike at Mosport with both setups and the webers were better by a huge margin. As to the wheelies and black strips, this was a non issue as the CR gear box ratios included a first gear numerically same as second in stock box.The bike would do 70 mph in first with 18/45 gearing and nearly 150 in fifth.Yes, Windsor is hurting for sure,we must wean ouselves of the big three teat ASAP.You are quite right about Kay.I chauffered him and his band to a gig in 03 at Cayuga and I remember his story now.He also spoke no English when he arrived.

Hey Canary, a "Working Man" like you should be able to "Roll the Bones" and think a little "Closer to the Heart". I mean really...use your "Freewill" and "Fly by Night"! This band was in the "Limelight" and truly was "The Spirit of Radio"! If memory serves I saw them at "Lakeside Park" one time just outside of "Middletown Dreams". I could only get standing room only so I was basically in "The Trees".

Ok ok ...I will stop now....

Dennis  ;D

P.S. the closest airport to where I live is "YYZ"...ok I really will stop now I can hear the groans from all the over here...sort of like "A Distant early Warning"!

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

That was Neil. He's been doing it for the last few tours. He writes about his travels as well. I've read Ghost Rider but that's the only one. It was pretty good. His bike was a BMW GS. http://www.neilpeart.net/index2.html
