550 Howdy from Georgia USA
« on: December 02, 2007, 05:22:21 AM »
Hi gang,
My name's Marc Randolph and I've had a '78 55oK since I found it in a garage 15 years ago. I was riding a basket case KZ650 at the time and still learning when I saw it on its center stand under a blanket in the air conditioned garage. Perfect condition with 2000 miles and clogged carbs but no title. $400 and the start of the NJ riding season! After spending 9 months fighting the NJ courts and going through the process, Warren County trying to remember how, it was legal and it was a cold December in NJ.

Cylinder #2 never started right - popping for the first 5 minutes. It's a mystery I've never solved. Carbs perfect. Exhaust like new.

She now sits in the basement with 8000 miles and the head removed - classic oil weeping at the corner. I'm riding my '99 Bandit. The engine paint is peeling a bit below the carbs so I'll remove it completely and clean and paint. These are beautiful bikes and people come and talk about the "old days" and their 750 whenever I ride. I haven't met a 550 lover yet but expect when I get the engine together and start riding it again that things will change.

I'm looking forward to reading with y'all and contributing. Sorry for the picture. No picture archive. Bandit pic when she was newer, and before the track crash.

I have to get to the PC more often. The job keeps me a little too busy.
I live in Paulding County, about 2 miles north of Douglasville and 15 miles west of Atlanta.

Howdy from Athens.  I like the comments I get on my 500 as well.  I've got a couple 550 projects coming along.  And just picked up a 750 from another forum member that will be a BIG project.

As I count it, we have 5 from Georgia that I know about.  We should all get together some time.

That would be cool! I mostly ride up in the mountains with a tried and trusted, small, group. I've never had the CB up there...

Welcome.  I'm just down the road in Villa Rica.  I have a '73 CB500 that's just awaiting the tank and sidecovers back from the painters.  I also have a pretty junked out 550 parts bike if you are ever really desperate for something.

Now I have even more of an incentive to get the Cb back together. It's all back roads to Villa Rica.

Welcome, I will be heading up your way to live in about 3 years or so. We own some land in the small town of Bowman, it's about 35 miles Northeast of Athens. I love the area and can't wait to move there for the riding. Florida is nice, but the roads and the people in North Georgia are awesome.

I've ridden out to Bowman from Athens several times for the twisty country roads.  Good fun.
