W: is anyone gonna even see that ?
M: well, .... it is visable
W: where does it go ?
M: (i show her)
W:ok how long did it take you to polish that (noticing that is not finished)
M: about an hour and a half (smileing)
W: ....(giving "the look")............. you know you have a sickness
M: it all about the details
W: ... (half under her breath)...wish you would spend an hour and a half on me
M:  :o :o :o..i'm free right now
W: wont your bike be mad
M............ ::)

Women really can't stand it when men find something enjoyable.
I know you said you are going against the grain and all but I don't see where the red fits in.  There are only 2 areas, the motor and the gauges.  Might I suggest giving something like these a try?

it's for contrast, an accent...... and you forgot the SS brake line. ;)

those faces are awesome, but i don't wanna overdo the leopard. witch is why, i think ,i don't really care for the stripe.

i think i'm just gonna leave the tank black for now, move on to something else. (drag bars) and come back to it later if i feel the need

First: the bike is awesome! Second, I agree with Olds-Cool about the red. My unsolicited advice is that you try the tank in red (leave the dishes, which are really cool, in black), and accent the edges of your custom metal work with red. Maybe just a 1/4" strip around the edges.

Keep up the good work, it's inspiring to me.

i disagree, not that that would look bad. just not the look i want

i was thinking maybe some hot rod pinstripe design on the top of the tank only, i also still want to mock up the leopard in the dishes, i have to have the pieces made. i want the edges sown. and i dont have a sewing machine. so i have to recruit someone's grandma to make it for me

Hi Spikey, I have been watching for quite a while and had my doubt about the leopard print in the dishes of that gas tank.  I have to admit that I actually like the way they look.  That is one clean tank, great work!

In order for it to be counter-culture, shouldnt most of us not like it?   ;)  I'm not a big fan of the leopord print, but to each his own - if you like it who am I to argue?

I'll second your point about the red pen striping.  It'll help bring it all together.

Since Im a new guy here I didnt feel that I should Chime in, but since my name is Terry, well, now I feel obligated - lol

I absolutely hate the leopard skin on this bike, BUT, yes a giant capital BUT, the fabrication, the way you put it together and the time you take to make it your own is very respected in my corner.

Man I wish I could work metal like you...or at least lived closer so you could do some work for me.

Anyway, you're looking for suggestions...I can't do a cool photoshop but here's an attempt.

Pin stripes to tie in the red
Close up that tank gap - you've got the skills
Use baby seal skin - then everybody would hate your bike

i do need to close that gap a little , but the ignition, the seat mount, and the ground for the battery are all in that gap.
witch is why it's still there ,...i'll clean it up some how

now i was against the idea of the pinstripes from the word go,i like the contrast of the flat paint against the shiney chrome,, but looking at your (attempted) photoshop pic ... i dont know .......it's growing on me

I now understand your hairstyle.  If I caught myself welding that close to a battery, my hair would stand straight up, too!  :o

Seriously, I admire your workmanship and free design spirit.  Just don't take offense if I decline to have you design one for me.   ;D ;D

I said it before, it's a work of art.  There are many elements I admire.  But, I have no art sense, really.  I'm a form follows function guy.  If it works, it is what it is.  Colors/shapes are optional and secondary to function.  Motorcycles MUST be fun to ride cross country to be successful, in my mind.  I don't take punishment well, anymore.
I predict butt pain from that much better looking seat. :D  :-X

I think the pin stripping would help a lot to tie the red in.  It stood out like a sore thumb before.  I didn't like the bike in previous incarnations.  It's growing on me more with the recent changes.  I think I forgot to mention in my last post how much I like the tank.

still undesided on the stripeing , that thought is on the backburner if anything.
right now it's drag bars(and most likely a shorter brake hose), petcock rebuild, gas tank cream.
just all the little stuff that goes with the big stuff i just finished
