Topic: Choke gets stuck, after putting on deckplate (Pictures)

So things seem to work okay until i mount the deckplate.  and by deck plate i mean the picture below.  It seems like even if i put in one screw things won't move as freely.



one problem i kind of see is that maybe this spring needs to be wound one more time, i say this because when i manually pull on the choke where the cable is going to go only the 1 and 2 carbs chokes move.  the 3 and 4 stay put.  It's a different story when the deck plate is off though everything moves correctly.



Also when i tighten down the deckplate the choke will rub on this spring. Is that suppose to happen.  If i screw in the main idle above the #4 carb this will make this gap bigger and no rubbing will occur.  I'm afraid that it will idle to high if i leave it in a non-rubbing position.


Finally does this spring look correct to you guys?

That "spring" that contacts upon closure of the cloke it your fast idle cam. That's supposed to touch when the choke is applied, propping the throttle open a little bit to help the bike warm up so you don't have to sit there with your hand on the throttle grip. When the choke is fully off, the cam should not touch the spring-loaded follower. If it does, the follower has an adjustment screw in it, but I wouldn't make any adjustments to it until you have everything reinstalled on the bike.

When you screw in the idle speed screw far enough, it props the throttle open wide enough that the fast idle cam won't touch- and the bike will rev like crazy, as you correctly suspect.

I'm not sure what to tell you RE your other questions.

I know nothing about your set up, but do you possibly have that plate upside down. Looks like it can be flipped around and still bolt up correctly. Just my two cents and good luck with it.

I actually thought about flipping it over, tried it and there's some pegs that don't fit properly so i'm sure this way is correct.

Lay the plate on the table and see if it lays flat. If it is torqued, you will need to find a way to flatten it out. What happens is if the carbs get pulled out of alignment, it causes binding.

it looks as flat as the table i sat it on??? Does all the linkage about appear to be set up correctly?  Do the springs look okay?  could the one for the choke be wrapped around to make it tighter?

Well if there is tension on the spring and it snaps the plates open, then the spring is ok. The only other thing I can think of is that the rod is bent somewhere.

Just wanted to let you guys know that i got it!  First i took the #! and #2 carb back off and twisted that spring an extra turn and reassembled everything.   Then i put the bar on that goes on the back of the carbs on the air box side with the four bolt.  Then i put the deckplate on and would tighten the bolts little by little make sure that they were all equal in tension before i moved on to tighten them more.  Then when all of them were tight, everything still moved properly.
