OK, 754, here's your sketch. Now, can you explain to us what it means?

Ok , that went on here clearer than I thought it would.

This pic is the sideplate of which there are 2 pieces, it is made out of 1/4 alum plate approx 6 1/2 inc x 6 1/8 inch (could use 6 inch) These mount to the forks, the round bar tie it together on the yopp holes, the dimecion is not listed now as it should be sized to the wheel/tire.. more on that later.

I have standars measurements as well will add them later.

This will stiffen the fork more than you would think is possible. I thought it might be good to post a project that can be done at home with basic tools or minimal outside work.. any questions please post.

The drawing on the lower right shows a cross-section top view of it on the fork leg, the plate is against the leg, brake pivot is reversed  and spacers added. Both brake pivot & brace are shown as diagonal lines. If you want to run a stock type fender it will fit where the black spacers are and you will use thinner spacers.

A couple of tips..remove fender

make carboard template then transfer

layout top holes last, just mark off 7/16 or 1/2 from each corner (depends on whatsize crosspiece you will use) actual hole location should be laid out later with dividers across top of tire.
I threaded the 2 bars that go across with5/16 NC and countersunk the plates to use allen bolts that sit flush. Bar length is determined after plates are in place to get good fit
You will need longer 6 mm bolts I think, for the forks.

drill both plates together

I have standard measurements, I will list (just a quick caliper measurement I took on a fork leg.. so drill 6mm first and check them.

E =1.675.. space evenly off the centreline of plate
D = 36mm not 36.5  ...1.421

between those  2 holes is 49 mm or 1.925

If someone can take the pic and expand on the fork brace part, would be good. I think you can also see my t stand in the pic I will check.. that is all I run for a stand.

That's a cool idea for a fork brace 754, I might make one up for my GL1000 front end.

Did you see it somewhere or come up with it yourself?

A lot of dragbikes use them.. I made it in 87 I think. I had to add the fender after i got stuck in the rain and sick! Around here you can sometimes ride for 4-6 weeks in summer w/o rain.

I did see a fork once from I think Egli that had the mounts cast in the fork legs, then a tube ran across and it clamped the tube like a triple tree!.

Think the larger cross tube is most rigid, but the only light way to do that is to weld or thread bungs in the tube with a tapped centre hole. I used 3/4 or 7/8 round aluminum, then turned all the middle down to about 5/8 or so to lighten it a bit.

Sure is an easy way to grab the bike loading it or towing at the strip..

I am bring this tread back to light because I made my own version of 754's fork brace for my Amen chopper.
Project is not completed but I am close.

My version of 754's fork brace also starts with 1/4 inch plate 6061 aluminum with 1 inch round bar. The 1 inch bar will be turned down later. The top brake caliper mount is reversed and proper spacing is machined up. The fender is UJM ( unknown Japanese make ), the inner brace has been removed ( drilled out spot welds ) and re-weld up. It was also banged up so I got for free.

First picture is 754's.

Looks like a nice bit of work.  Was it difficult to get the spacing right for the round bars as not to hinder fork movement?  It should look great polished!  I will rethink my idea as your project is better than my idea.
Good Job!

Great job Leo, looks realy good.. cant wait to see it polished up!

Steve K, The spacing is pretty easy, once the side plates are snugged up and parrallel, you measure the spacer length, then trin them too that length.

Stiffens the front end up a lot..

 Thanks All.
Steve K, the distance between the bottom of the brace should be the same for the bar length. You know you are square when they are the same.

It should stiffens up the forks just like 754 say it would.

Yes it will be polished once the fender is painted.
