Let's see your "other's bike"
« on: March 30, 2008, 11:07:13 AM »
wait... what thread are we in?

YOUR OTHER'S BIKE(S)!!!   ;D

we've all seen your's already... that's old hat   :D... tell us about your other's bikes.

the one in the foreground is an '86 yamaha srx6... a single cyl., kickstart only, retro style only imported into the states in 86.  gsxr bikes were on the way in and these, sadly, were on the way out.  elizabeth traded her 98 vfr800 to dad for this one recently.  she's ridden it once.  the srx6 is nearly mint, bone stock and fairly rare.

thats elizabeth in the middle  ;D

behind her is the '88 ex500 inline twin that she bought on ebay in the dead of winter (w/ insurance money from being run off the road on the vfr), we drove a mad dash in a rented dodge dakota to chicago and back to colorado in 2 days, and spent the next 4 months fiddling and getting it back on the road... it had over a gallon of gas in the crankcase as well as the appropriate amount of oil.  as a special treat for its rebirth it got a set of 2 into 2 sarachu race exhaust made in brazil... a fairly popular hop of for these bikes and they roar.  the ex500 is a bit rusty, a bit of a rat, not rare at all, and will easily pull 115mph out of nowhere.

so, let's your other's...

My "other" hasn't been near a bike for about 15 years...

She's got one of these:

no kidding!
it was the second my dad has had... he really loved the first one he had w/ a supertrapp.
he thinks this one w/ the stock exhaust is a bit down on power... i just think he's a bit up on weight.   ;)
it should have no problems hauling around elizabeth.   :)
now, she's just got to get the kickstart down.   :D  it does start terribly easy though... hadn't started all winter, i went out a couple weeks ago kicked it thru a few times w/ ignition off to get it flowing, kicked once and it idled like it was already warm and ready to go!

Sadly, I'm in the group who's "other's" don't ride.  I tried teaching her, but she just wasn't very interested. :'(

I can't complain too much, though, because she likes riding with me and she fully supports my addiction, and instead of complaining when I spend too much time in the garage, she'll just come and hang out with me when I'm out there. :)

Not std exhausts surely?

If you mean the CB200, no they're not stock mufflers (dream on, I looked for over a year).
I chopped off the bad mufflers (what was left of them) and had the exhaust pipes re-chromed at considerable expense.
Then I threw on some Dunstlal replicas - pretty good look, not too far from stock. Only knowledgeable people even notice.
The exhaust issue pretty much blew the budget on this one.

He He,

I had a '71 CB175 - cut off the rusted silencers and fitted Dunstall "Decibel" megas.

That's why I asked.

This is Jen on her '78 400 Hawk:

I keep saying that that first thing I would do if that bike was mine would be to throw on some drag bars to make it  a little more comfy for me. She says, "That's nice, dear. This one's my bike. Just lower the seat and I'll be happy."   ;D ;D

just switch them in the middle of the night... once she uses them, she won't know why she didn't.   ;)
much more confidence inspiring and control in my opinion.
