Here's a discussion that was started a few days ago on the Tech Forum ("What's wrong with this picture?" about changing tires). It started out with a few snyde remarks about Harleys (ok, I made 'em!), but has led to a very satisfying conversation about Bike History.
What are your favorite Bikes? Do you have photos of them that we could see?
I, as many of you might be, am partial to Hondas...I've loved them since I was about 7.a neighbor kid had a Cub about that time...the first bike I ever rode was a Dream, with those nice plastic fenders, and all that nice squareness (I will own one someday, so help me!)...I loved how the guys in the ads all wore Chinos and Madras shirts, and more importantly, how they all seemed to have a cute chick on the back with a Miniskirt and Go Go Boots.
Contrary to my tirade on the other forum, I do like Old Harleys and Indians, and any other old Classic. I do hold exception to the newer breed of Harleys though (Except V-Rods, which have a Porche engine)..I think they're crude. The engines shake and vibrate, and until recently, they leaked oil. Until the Evo engine, Harley was pretty much using technology that they've used for 100 years. Given the choice, I would much rather have a VTX for around half the price of a Harley.. Oh, and they're incredibly expensive. A friend of mine bought Shadows for both he and his wife, and a Box trailer to haul them in, for about the price of the Harley that he originally set out to buy.
That's the brilliance of Honda...they've reinvented the Motorcycle over and over, not doing much copying on the way. and it all is mechanically outstanding...and they've maintained a reasonable price point.
So, if Superman and Mighty Mouse got in a fight, who would win? Any Takers?
