What bike(s) would you like to own?
« on: March 31, 2008, 02:46:33 PM »
So many bikes out there I would love to get my hands on.

1. I'd love to get a liter bike, maybe next year- GSXR 1000. I rode a friends and had quite a fun time with it. Power was quite a rush.
2. Yamaha SR500- I just want a big city single. I'd be happy with a TW200 as there are some trails nearish. I dont think Yamaha would import any MT-03s.
3. A Ducati-any one actually. They sound great and used 916s pop up from time to time and are quite affordable.
4. a Honda RC30 or RC45- I'll never get a chance to own one of these beauties.  A neighbor had a VF500 that sounded great.
5. older Triumph- my father rode a Bonnie back in the day. I like the lines.
6. I'm sure I'll think of more.

1979 Red CBX
1990 Transalp
1964 Super Hawk
1972 XL250

I've owned all four, but sold them.  Now I am hoping to get them again.

The bikes I want to own (again) are my old Triumph and my old BSA.
Along with an early panhead, and for some odd reason I like early guzzis and ducks.

Oh yeah, I forgot the Benly 125 Super Sport.
In fact, that one tops the list, but I'm afraid the chances of finding one are slim to none.

754, hope you don't mind hearing a story about a 101 Scout. (I noticed that you mentioned one.)

Well, years ago, when the "Wall Of Death" was a big deal at the fair, the ones who came to Little Rock every year started leaving  one of their 101 Scouts with my Granddad to rebuild. Then, when they came back the next year, they'd leave another one and so on. When it was all said and done, they never came back for the last one. All it was, was a frame w/ forks and a motor (a rebuilt motor!) When my Granddad died in Dec 68', that bike was still there at the top of the stairs. I have no idea what happened to it. I DO know that much to my dispair (I just found out about a year ago that ALL of the motorcyle parts and stuff went to the SCRAP YARD!!!!
I was so shocked!!!!!!! For the past few years, the parts that were upstairs in my Granddad's motorcycle shop, would have brought a fortune. Probably the best thing that I got out of the deal was the Indian crankshaft Truing stand. And THAT baby's stayin' in MY possession til I'm dead and gone. ;) Sorry I got a bit carried away, thought you'd appreciate the (TRUE) story about the 101 Scout.

                            Take care, Bill :) ;)

I was just drooling over one just like that at the dealer today....they also have a restored Bonneville for only $20,000. Along with a Paul Smart Ducati 1000. Think they'd give me a deal if I bought all three?

101,s were one of the best riding bikes ever made, thats why they use them so much on the walls.

Every time someone says their bike handles good, I ask if they can do a figure 8... no hands.. :o ..then tell them a 101 can!
Not to mention some of the other things they can do.. like the rider standing on the fork spring while going down the road or on the wall!!

Yeah , I like 101 stories.. where did Gandpa live??

He lived in North Little Rock, Arkansas and the Fair was across the Arkansas River, in Little Rock. My Granddad used to take bets on who could ride the furthest without touching the handlebars. He always won and he was betting the guys with the H-Ds while riding to or from Memphis. He could ride the full distance without touching the handlebars. That front end actually had the axle behind the fork. The others had the axle at the end of or in front of the fork. It was the "Trailing" effect of the axle that did it.

Realistically: a new bonneville or scrambler after I'm out of college.

If I won the lotto: K0 750, Duc 750 or 900ss, rc166, cb92r, cbx, cx650t, suzuki re5, any knucklehead, an early sportster, black 850 commando, a flying merkel (because the name is so cool),  ......... and on and on until I basically fill a warehouse and have my own personal museum.

I would love a nice, clean, un-touched 1966 S90 in red, an all original Blue 1968 CL175 Scrambler, then a 1973 Purple CB350G twin, oh - and a 1973 Green DT3 - all to replace the first 4 bikes I owned growing up -
