Dyna Ignition Wires
« on: April 17, 2008, 08:03:15 PM »
I feel like I'm missing something here - the wire is far too small for the crimp, and the white insulation is the right size, but non-conductive.... where am I going wrong  ???

Last piece of the puzzle, then I can start it up.  Dyna ignition/coils installed and timed, carbs rebuilt, I've got oil pressure...

Bend the stripped part of the wire back over the insulation and then crimp the whole thing in the connector.

Are you gonna try to start it up tonight?  I love those long days in the garage that end with a running bike! :)

Interesting... I'll do that then.  Do I bend it back "as is" or should i leave the white insulation in place and crimp onto that?

Not going to fire it tonight then, I guess I'll get the wires finished up tomorrow and pick up some fresh gas - then maybe it lives :)

Its been exactly one year since I brought this basketcase pile of parts home....and I still need to paint the tank, fender and headlight bucket.

Wow! :o :o

I smell a future BOTM nominee! ;D
Don't think I've ever seen a 400F tank on a 750 before.  I like it!

Yes, just bend it back as-is.  You need to have the core of the wire in contact with the crimp connector.

MSD makes a very inexpensive 2 piece crimper that you use in a vise. It works great. Sparty will attest to it too. ;)

I'll have to remember that for next time - I bought the tool that Z1 sells for the wires, looks to be ok - I have a few crimping tools already, but I figured it was better to spend the $12 and not need it than the other way around.

+1 on the MSD tool.  It makes a neat, clean, and strong crimp.
